Customer Support Chemist

As a Customer Support Chemist, you will support activities developing and maintaining pretreatment and electrocoat products for all NA Auto OEM customers. This will encompass formulation, preparation and application of coatings, and testing these coatings against multiple regional specifications and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct development work such as the formulation, application and testing of pretreatment and electrocoat products.

  • Work with manager in setting smart project goals, milestones against bold timelines.

  • Work with the commercial and the field organization informally and formally for ongoing project work.

  • Apply root cause analysis and BPI tools to lead resolution of manufacturing and field issues.

  • Maintain results through written and verbal summaries, coatings reports, test drill presentations, and project updates.

  • Work with regional labs; and together with R&D and other departments on the development of new product platforms globally.

  • Simulate customer line conditions to troubleshoot field issues and to increase the speed and success rate of product launches.

  • Help with FLC, Secure Launch process (formula filing, conversion planning, PDCA).

  • Work safely, following all lab procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Science Degree in Chemistry or related Engineering or Science field with 3+ years of experience.

  • 1+ years of experience in coatings or substrate protection systems is preferred.

  • Experience with experimental design (DOE) and problem solving.

  • Travel will be <15%

The base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $105,000, with the possibility of an annual bonus up to 7% of base salary.
