POSITION SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, the Custodial Trainer is responsible for training and supporting custodial staff, including custodians, janitors, and floor technicians on proper cleaning procedures, equipment operation, chemical safety, and industry best practices. Employees in this job class ensure staff perform cleaning tasks safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. This job requires knowledge of custodial techniques, safety and compliance practices, and the ability to deliver effective hands‑on instruction that improves quality, consistency, and employee performance across assigned facilities.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

1. *Train new and existing custodial staff on proper cleaning techniques, procedures, and company standards.2. *Provide hands-on instruction to custodians, janitors, and floor technicians in active work environments.3. *Conduct onboarding training, refresher courses, and corrective or skills‑improvement training as needed.4. *Demonstrate proper use of custodial tools, equipment, and supplies, including floor machines and specialty equipment.5. *Train staff on floor care processes such as stripping, waxing, burnishing, buffing, and carpet extraction.6. *Teach and reinforce company cleaning standards, scope of work expectations, and site‑specific requirements.7. *Perform routine quality inspections and deliver constructive feedback to improve employee performance.8. *Identify performance gaps and recommend or provide additional training or coaching.9. *Train employees on safe chemical handling, dilution control, labeling, storage, and general OSHA/SDS compliance.10. *Promote safe work practices and reinforce infection-control and cross‑contamination prevention procedures.11. *Maintain training records, attendance logs, and competency checklists and communicate progress or concerns to management.12. *Support supervisors and managers with operational needs, including start‑ups, transitions, and implementation of best practices.13. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Three or more years of hands-on custodial experience, including floor care; experience as a lead, supervisor or trainer preferred;• Safety focused mindset with working knowledge of custodial equipment, proper chemical handling and cleaning procedures;• Demonstrated ability to effectively train and develop employees with varying skill levels with experience training large or dispersed teams;• Effective oral and written communication skills to respond to questions and requests from team, customers and others, using appropriate business English (Bilingual-Spanish/English preferred);• Human relations and interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive working relationships;• Effective customer service, problem solving and common-sense skills with the ability to assess issues, identify solutions and support continuous improvement;• Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and meeting software;• Strong attention to detail to ensure adherence to cleaning standards, safety protocols, and site-specific requirements;• Flexibility to respond to changing priorities and schedules, with ability to work nights and weekends, if required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:• Accessing and interacting with computer screens or monitors, using visual displays, screen readers, magnification tools, or other assistive technologies;• Inputting and navigating information using keyboards, adaptive devices, voice‑recognition software, or other accessible input methods;• Communicating with others through phone, text relay services, captioned or ASL‑supported video calls, or speech‑to‑text messaging tools;• Performing job tasks for extended periods, using methods or tools that support individual abilities;• Move throughout indoor and outdoor work areas using standard mobility or mobility aids.• Stand and walk as needed throughout the workday;• Reach, bend, kneel, or perform similar movements, using modified techniques or assistive devices as needed;• Lift and transport items up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, independently or with assistance;• Push or pull custodial equipment; may occasionally push/pull up to 70 pounds with or without assistance;• Grasp and handle small and large objects using natural or adaptive grips;• Access elevated areas using ladders, step stools, or alternative safe‑access methods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office environment or at a customer’s location, such as a healthcare facility, courthouse, public spaces, etc. Employees may be exposed to toxic chemicals, noise from equipment in maintenance environment, and depending on indoor and outdoor conditions, exposure to cold or heat.
