The Lynchburg Department of Public Works is seeking experienced custodians to perform routine semi-skilled and heavy manual work in the care and cleaning of City buildings. Ensures the delivery of excellent customer service by performing responsible functions in the safety, security, maintenance, and regular care of City facilities. Assists in the coordination of various services in cooperation with internal and external customers
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned. When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May oversee the work of custodians and/or temporary employees.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and considerable experience in light maintenance and custodial work and experience operating a computer with knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, Lotus Notes, and the Internet; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the facility.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Interpersonal Skills
Ability to communicate in a tactful and cooperative manner. Ability to be involved with citizens or other City employees. May provide leadership and guidance as a work leader.
Valid Virginia driver's license and acceptable driving record according to City criteria; driving record check will be completed prior to employment.
Relevant background checks (criminal and reference) completed and approved.Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
