Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of Sterile Processing. Assumes the duties of the Unit Manager when needed. Responsible for engagement activities, performance feedback and corrective actions. Responds to customer needs and concerns. Acts as a trouble-shooter and makes recommendations for and/or implements process improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares and evaluates daily/weekly staff assignments for assigned shifts.
- Ensures staff are in compliance with department and CCF policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Assesses quality of service delivery to ensure department quality standards are met, turnaround time is efficient, and OR needs are met.
- Provides performance feedback to employees, and when applicable, corrective action.
- Leads department employee engagement activities.
- Facilitates staff development programs including in-services on product usage and infection prevention.
- Assists in orienting new employees and supplements as preceptor when necessary.
- Collects data and prepares reports concerning instrument distribution, loss, and replacement.
- Supports instrument preventative maintenance program and vendor management technology solution.
- Uses the department's instrument and productivity tracking program to maintain accurate records regarding sterilization and tray assembly count sheets.
- Establishes internal inventory levels and maintains levels in accordance with Cleveland Clinic annual procedure volumes and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Actively seeks ways to eliminate errors, reduce turnaround time, maintains workflows, and improve customer service.
- Demonstrates use of L.E.A.N tools philosophies.
- Serves as a designated backup manager, assuming management responsibilities during the manager's absence for any reason.
- Provides data analytics and generates reports to support operational metrics and performance tracking.
- Possibly participate in working groups to develop and document standardized processes.
- Adheres to contractual formularies and promotes efficiency and standardization whenever feasible.
- Participates in management reviews for quality systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- HS diploma or GED required.
Certifications:
- Required: Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST), or Certification Sterile Processing and Distribution Licensure in Sterile Processing (CSPDT).
- Certification Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA) from American Society for Quality (ASQ) preferred completion in 2-years.
Complexity of Work:
- Proficient with computer software applications (Excel, Word) and related sterile processing information systems.
- Proficient in ERP Systems (ex. Oracle) or similar software applications preferred.
- Ability document policies and procedures and train others in system use.
- Skill in verbal and written communication and ability to effectively present information to individuals or small groups.
- Knowledge of performance improvement and quality standards specific to sterile processing.
- Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with members of the healthcare team.
- Ability to promote customer satisfaction and to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
Work Experience:
- Minimum two years of Sterile Processing and/or related O.R experience required.
- 1 Year in a leadership role and or/ as a Sterile Processing lead technician preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting items that weigh 20-30 pounds.
- Requires the ability to push a fully loaded cart weighing up to 200+ pounds.
- Possible exposure to biological and chemical contamination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $52,270.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $79,727.50
