The Prince George's CountyDepartment of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T)is currently seeking highly qualified applicants to fill a Crew Supervisor I(Crew Supervisor 1A)gradeA17position in theOffice of Storm Drain Maintenance.About the PositionThis is supervisory and technical work whereby incumbents plan, coordinate and schedule the work activities of unskilled/semi-skilled small to moderate size crews, Laborers, Equipment Operators, Masonry Mechanics, and Trades Helpers. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level Crew Supervisor. The work includes exposure to hazards, risks, or discomforts typical of working with or around machinery with exposed moving parts, irritant chemicals, fumes or airborne particles. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions with exposure to the elements; work requires intermittent standing, walking, stooping, and climbing. Incumbents must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 pounds. Incumbents must wear and maintain a uniform and safety equipment, such as hard hats, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and gloves.
About The AgencyThe Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area -- all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T’s workforce keeps the County’s various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.- Plan, schedule, and coordinate work of crew members involved in various road repair and maintenance activities.
- Assemble the necessary equipment, materials, and supplies necessary to complete the assigned tasks.
- Monitor and inspect the work of assigned crew(s) to ensure adherence to instructions, specifications, and standards.
- Observe conditions of the assigned area for problems and/or hazards and schedules the work necessary to resolve situations.
- Investigate service requests and schedule work.
- Train assigned personnel.
- Approve and monitor leave and absences of assigned employees.
- Conduct counseling sessions and recommend disciplinary action; Complies with preventative maintenance schedule for all vehicles/equipment assigned to crews under his/her supervision.
- Maintain safe working conditions and may be required to operate vehicles/equipment requiring a Commercial Driver's License.
- Reviews Vehicle Inspection Reports on a weekly basis to verify compliance with applicable procedures.
- Participates as an essential employee in the Department's Snow and Ice Control Program and other emergencies or special activities
High school Diploma or G.E.D Certificate.
Experience as a skilled worker engaged in road maintenance/construction/building activities, plus
An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities maybe considered; however, there is no substitution for the required supervisory experience.
