Job Summary:

Provides support to the Commercial Lending Officers and is responsible for underwriting and monitoring the credit risk of a commercial loan portfolio that meets established lending requirements and provides maximum profitability to the bank at a minimum risk.


Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Spread and analyze financial statements and tax returns, and prepare cash flows, to allow for a thorough review of commercial credits.
  • Analyze financial, collateral, and industry information to determine and mitigate risk in commercial lending relationships with commitments primarily totaling $1 million or greater.
  • Manage loan request pipeline and workload efficiently and judiciously.
  • Assist with structuring loans and averting policy exceptions.
  • Review and critique junior credit analyst write-ups and assist with training.
  • Handle appraisal reviews for loans under $1 million.
  • Understand the bank’s loan policy and its impact on underwriting.
  • Assist with Loan Policy modifications and application.
  • Interact with Chief Credit Officer and Executive Management as needed for special projects.


Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or other related fields. MBA preferred.


Qualification Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting theory, including knowing the differences between GAAP, cash, and income-tax-based accounting and their effects on cash flow analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of loan policy, loan regulations, loan grading, and loan documentation procedures.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience, including training junior analysts.
  • Experience underwriting a variety of loan types, including CRE, Construction, C&I, and Healthcare loans.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to listen attentively and intuitively, with high comprehension, and effectively convey a response that promotes collaboration and a team atmosphere.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to make sound decisions of all types, with little hesitation and after thorough consideration of relevant data.
  • Ability to interpret financial information and data, evaluate the character and capabilities of the client, and determine the value of collateral offered.
  • Ability to demonstrate aptitude for detail work and ability to effectively meet specific deadlines.
  • Ability to respond under pressure while effectively working with multiple priorities and schedules.
  • High-level critical thinking skills.
  • Previous experience working in a depository institution is preferred but not required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, Adobe, etc.


Experience Requirements:

6+ years of experience required, as gained through credit analysis, loan portfolio management, loan review, or equivalent positions. Proven ability to understand and analyze financial statements, tax returns, and other financial documents, and to make sound credit decisions.


Physical Requirements:

Normal office activity. May require long periods of typing and repetitive motion.
