About Beyel Brothers, Inc.

Beyel Brothers, Inc. is a Florida-based crane rental, rigging, heavy haul, and marine/barge services company headquartered in Cocoa, Florida. We operate one of the Southeast's most capable heavy lift fleets, including large crawler cranes deployed on some of the most technically demanding infrastructure, energy, and industrial projects in the region. Assembling and disassembling that equipment safely, correctly, and efficiently is one of the most skilled and consequential functions in our operation. This role owns that work.

Position Summary

The Crawler Crane Assembly Technician is responsible for the assembly, disassembly, reconfiguration, and transport preparation of Beyel Brothers, Inc.'s crawler crane fleet at jobsites across Florida and the Southeast. This is a highly technical, field-based position requiring deep hands-on knowledge of large crawler crane systems including lattice boom structures, superstructure and undercarriage components, counterweight systems, hydraulic circuits, and wire rope reeving. You will work directly alongside crane operators, lift directors, and rigging crews to execute assembly and disassembly operations safely, on schedule, and in strict compliance with OEM procedures, engineered assembly plans, and OSHA regulations. This is not an entry-level position. It requires someone who has put real time on large crawlers and understands what is at stake when the work is done wrong.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Performing full assembly and disassembly of large crawler cranes including lattice boom cranes in accordance with OEM assembly manuals, engineered assembly and disassembly procedures, and applicable OSHA and ASME standards
  • Assembling and disassembling lattice boom sections, luffing jibs, fixed jibs, pendants, and boom inserts in the correct sequence and configuration per the lift plan and OEM specifications
  • Installing, configuring, and removing counterweight packages including suspended counterweight and superlift configurations on applicable crane models
  • Assembling and inspecting crawler undercarriage components including tracks, track shoes, carbody, and drive systems prior to and following transport
  • Reeving wire rope on main hoist, auxiliary hoist, boom hoist, and luffing systems in accordance with OEM reeving diagrams and load chart configurations
  • Inspecting wire rope, sheaves, pins, shackles, pendants, and structural components during assembly for wear, damage, and compliance with ASME B30.5 and manufacturer requirements, and documenting all findings
  • Operating hydraulic systems during assembly including boom raising, counterweight installation, and crawler attachment sequences, and identifying and reporting hydraulic deficiencies to the Service Manager
  • Coordinating with heavy haul dispatch and transport crews on crawler crane component breakdown, load sequencing, and transport preparation to comply with Florida oversize and overweight permitting requirements
  • Assisting with and directing the rigging of crawler crane components during assembly lifts using assist cranes, including proper sling selection, rigging configuration, and load control under qualified rigger standards
  • Conducting post-assembly functional checks and inspections in coordination with the crane operator prior to the crane entering service
  • Performing assembly and disassembly operations safely and efficiently under time pressure on active jobsites while maintaining full compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC assembly and disassembly requirements
  • Maintaining accurate assembly and inspection documentation including assembly checklists, deficiency logs, and component condition records in accordance with Beyel Brothers, Inc. policy
  • Performing field maintenance and minor repairs to crane components identified during assembly and inspection as directed by the Service Manager
  • Traveling to jobsites throughout Florida and the Southeast for assembly, disassembly, and reconfiguration work as project schedules require

Required Certifications and Qualifications

The following are required or strongly required given the nature and risk level of crawler crane assembly operations. They reflect the regulatory and technical environment this role operates in directly.

  • Minimum 5 years of verified hands-on experience in the assembly and disassembly of large lattice boom crawler cranes is required. Experience on cranes rated at 200 tons or greater is required
  • Demonstrated experience with specific large crawler crane models is required. Experience on Liebherr LR series, Manitowoc Model 18000 series, Link-Belt TCC series, or comparable large lattice boom crawlers is required. Experience on the Liebherr LR 1300 or comparable 300 ton class crawler crane is a significant plus
  • NCCCO Rigger Level II certification is required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire. NCCCO Rigger Level I is the minimum acceptable credential at time of hire
  • NCCCO Signal Person certification is required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification under 29 CFR 1926 is required
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC assembly and disassembly requirements, including the requirement for a qualified person to direct all assembly and disassembly operations, is required
  • Working knowledge of ASME B30.5 (Mobile and Locomotive Cranes), ASME B30.9 (Slings), and ASME B30.26 (Rigging Hardware) standards as they apply to crawler crane assembly rigging operations is required
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret OEM assembly manuals, reeving diagrams, load charts, and engineered assembly and disassembly procedures is required
  • Wire rope inspection knowledge and familiarity with removal-from-service criteria under ASME B30.5 and applicable OEM standards is required
  • Valid Class A CDL is preferred for operation of support vehicles and transport equipment associated with assembly operations. Candidates without a CDL but with otherwise exceptional qualifications will be considered
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination and maintain a valid medical examiner certificate if operating commercial motor vehicles in connection with this role
  • Must be enrolled in and compliant with Beyel Brothers, Inc.'s DOT drug and alcohol testing program under 49 CFR Part 382 including the FMCSA Clearinghouse if operating commercial motor vehicles
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction is the minimum acceptable OSHA credential at time of hire. OSHA 30-Hour Construction is required and must be obtained within 6 months of hire if not already held
  • Completion of OEM factory assembly training for any of the crawler crane models in Beyel Brothers, Inc.'s fleet is a significant plus and will be prioritized in candidate evaluation

Who We Are Looking For

  • A technically accomplished crawler crane assembly specialist with a verifiable track record on large lattice boom equipment in a commercial crane rental or heavy lift contractor environment
  • Someone who understands OEM assembly procedures at a level that goes beyond general familiarity, who can identify when something is wrong in a sequence before it becomes a problem, and who takes the responsibility of that knowledge seriously
  • Physically capable of performing the full demands of crawler crane assembly work including working at significant heights on boom sections, working in confined undercarriage spaces, operating in outdoor environments across varied weather and ground conditions, and handling heavy components with appropriate rigging and mechanical assist equipment
  • A clear communicator who can coordinate effectively with crane operators, lift directors, rigging crews, and transport teams across a jobsite during time-sensitive assembly operations
  • Self-directed and capable of managing assembly sequences independently when required while knowing when to stop, verify, and escalate a concern before proceeding
  • Willing and available to travel throughout Florida and the Southeast for assembly and disassembly work as project assignments require, including extended project stays and overnight travel
  • Professional in conduct and appearance as a direct representative of Beyel Brothers, Inc. on customer and general contractor jobsites
