Job Title: Crater – 1st Shift

Job Description

This 1st shift Crater role focuses on building custom crates, packaging and kitting products, and supporting shipping activities in a new, growing facility. You will use hand and power tools, operate basic machinery, enter shipping information into a computer system, and interact with customers as needed. Over time, you will take on additional responsibilities, including operating a band saw and assisting with box truck runs between facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Build and assemble wooden crates and related packaging using hand tools and power tools.
  • Perform packaging and kitting of products to ensure safe and accurate shipment.
  • Use a computer to enter and update shipping information and related documentation.
  • Operate machinery such as band saws after receiving proper training.
  • Handle wood products safely and efficiently throughout the production and crating process.
  • Support general shop operations and complete the majority of daily tasks in a small-crew environment.
  • Take responsibility for running the shop when leadership is traveling, ensuring work continues smoothly.
  • Work directly with customers as needed to support orders, pickups, or special requests.
  • Assist with operating forklifts as needed, following all safety procedures.
  • After permanent hire, train to drive a box truck and assist with runs to other facilities.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with hand tools and power tools in a professional setting.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Ability to use a computer for shipping-related tasks and data entry.
  • Experience operating machinery such as saws or similar equipment.
  • Experience using a forklift or similar material-handling equipment.
  • Comfort working with wood products and related materials.
  • Ability to take ownership of daily tasks and work independently in a small shop setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Packaging and kitting experience.
  • Experience working directly with customers in a production or service environment.
  • Willingness to learn additional skills such as band saw operation and box truck driving.
  • Interest in growing into a lead role as the facility expands.

Work Environment

This is a 1st shift position, typically working from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in a new facility with a small team. The role involves hands-on work in a production shop environment, regularly handling wood products, operating hand tools, power tools, and machinery, and using a computer for shipping and documentation. The facility operates with a lean crew, so you will handle a broad range of tasks and may run the shop when leadership is traveling. After permanent hire, you will also train to drive a box truck for runs between facilities. The position begins as a contract-to-possible-hire opportunity, with potential for long-term employment and advancement as order volume and leadership needs grow. Appropriate work attire for a production and shop environment is expected, suitable for working with wood, tools, and machinery.

This is a Contract position based out of Camp Hill, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
