Job Description

This entry-level crane operator role involves handling and moving steel materials in a fast-paced, industrial environment. You will prepare, load, and unload materials using an overhead crane and related equipment while following work orders and safety procedures. The position requires physical stamina, reliability, and a willingness to learn, with opportunities to increase earnings through a performance-based incentive program. All on site training!!!

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret work orders to determine materials to be loaded and moved.
  • Prepare materials to be loaded onto the crane, including organizing, staging, and checking parts.
  • Safely load materials onto the crane in accordance with work orders and safety guidelines.
  • Control and operate the crane to move materials efficiently while minimizing swing and ensuring safe handling.
  • Unload materials from the crane onto trucks, pallets, or designated storage areas.
  • Perform all prep work, material handling, and unloading tasks without relying on separate support roles.
  • Assist with general labor tasks such as assembly, saw operation, grinding, and basic machine operation as needed.
  • Use forklifts and other material handling equipment when required, following proper safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient operations.
  • Work continuously and efficiently throughout the shift to support team production goals and incentive targets.
  • Follow all safety protocols and operational procedures in an industrial and manufacturing setting.
  • Collaborate with team members to coordinate material flow and help each other maximize overall productivity.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in general labor, construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
  • Familiar with machine operation or assembly work.

Work Environment

The role is based in a modern, clean industrial facility dedicated to flat steel products, built in 2015. The shop operates with a lean staffing model, so team members stay busy from the start to the end of their shifts, driven by a performance-based incentive program. The environment is fast-paced, with a strong focus on teamwork and cooperation to move materials efficiently and safely. This position is for third shift, working 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. You will work around cranes, forklifts, saws, grinding equipment, and other industrial machinery, following established safety procedures in a friendly and supportive setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pittsburgh, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00/hr.
