Southwest Industrial Rigging is seeking an experienced Crane Mechanic / Crane Service Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for the inspection, diagnostics, repair, maintenance and operational testing of mobile cranes and related heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in hydraulic, electrical, CAN bus and load moment indicator (LMI) systems along with the ability to troubleshoot complex crane-related issues both in the shop and in the field. This role requires a highly motivated technician capable of working independently while maintaining a strong focus on safety, reliability and quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair and maintain mobile cranes and heavy lifting equipment
Ability to troubleshoot and repair:
- Hydraulic systems
- CAN Bus communication systems
- LMI/RCL Systems
- Electrical and electronic control systems
- Diesel engines and drivetrain components
- Air brake and suspension systems
- Steering and boom control systems
- Perform operational inspections, load testing and functional testing of crane systems
- Conduct DOT annual inspections and required 90-day crane inspections in accordance with OSHA and manufacturer requirements.
- Inspect and repair boom assemblies, outriggers, winches, sheaves, cables and safety devices.
- Diagnose faults using OEM diagnostic software, multimeters, pressure gauges and CAN bus diagnostic tools.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, load charts and technical service manuals.
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service work on cranes and support equipment.
- Complete field service calls, emergency repairs and breakdown response as needed.
- Operate cranes for testing and troubleshooting purposes while following all safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate work orders, inspection reports and service documentation.
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with OSHA, ANSI, DOT and company safety standards.
- Maintain clean and organized service vehicles, tooling and work areas.
Qualifications
· Minimum 5 years of experience repairing and maintaining mobile cranes or heavy equipment.
Strong knowledge of:
- Hydraulic systems
- CAN Bus systems and diagnostics
- Electrical troubleshooting
- LMI/RCL Systems
- Diesel engines and drivetrain systems
- Experience with Grove, Link-Belt, Tadano, Manitowoc, Liebherr or similar crane manufacturers preferred.
- Ability to diagnose complex electrical and hydraulic issues independently.
- Must be capable of safely operating cranes for diagnostics and operational testing.
- Experience performing crane inspections and preventative maintenance programs preferred.
- Must provide and maintain personal mechanic hand tools required to perform daily job duties.
- Employer will provide specialty tools, diagnostic software and large shop equipment.
- Toolboxes must be maintained in a safe and professional manner.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required. CDL preferred but not required.
- NCCCO certification is a plus.
- Must pass background screening and drug test.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift heavy components safely.
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday (Hours TBD)
- Weekday overtime and occasional weekend work may be required.
