The Middle District of Florida seeks a full-time Court Services Clerk to serve the Court in its mission to provide fair and impartial justice to all. The ideal candidate possesses excellent interpersonal, computer, and analytical skills; strong work ethic; and resilience. This meaningful career opportunity is located in the Fort Myers division.
This position serves in the jury department, case administration, and as a backup courtroom deputy clerk. The representative duties are:
- Serves as the main jury clerk. Provides superior customer service to jurors and the court. Assists with jury logistics, including orientation, parking, lodging, and procuring and obtaining refreshments. Assists with a variety of administrative tasks, including juror attendance and payment, juror qualification, juror vouchers, juror utilization, records, statistics, and the telephonic response system. Operates the Jury Management System. Coordinate with chambers for calendaring and juror needs.
- Serves in case administration. Receives and reviews incoming documents to determine conformity with appropriate rules and court requirements. Covers the intake window on rotation. Collects appropriate fees. Utilizes automated cash register system for receipts. Makes summary entries of all documents and proceedings in cases in CM/ECF. Ensures that all entries are appropriately linked for proper case management. Prepares and transmits court documents to appropriate parties. Answers inquiries on case status. Opens cases upon receipt of initiating documents, such as complaints, indictments, or petitions. Closes cases upon receipt of terminating documents, such as judgments and closing orders. Supports all other areas within the office, as necessary.
- Serves as a backup courtroom deputy. Attends and records court sessions and conferences. Assists with the orderly flow of proceedings, including preparing the courtroom, organizing exhibits, assuring the presence of all necessary participants, assisting witnesses and jurors, and maintaining courtroom decorum. Takes notes of proceedings and rulings and prepares minute entries for the record. Manages the electronic evidence presentation system and the custody of court exhibits. Serves as a primary source of information about courtroom equipment and the court schedule. Draft judgments and other orders for the judge's approval. Utilizes reports and information from the automated case management system and ensures the accuracy of statistical reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requires a professional, cooperative, and congenial demeanor at all times and strong administrative, organizational, analytical, and writing ability. Requires solid computer skills, preferably with Word, Windows, and Office 365. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Legal experience preferred.
