JOB SUMMARY
Provides work direction, supervision and support for armed court security staff. Enforces Superior Court security procedures under the direction of the Security Manager and may perform security duties in potentially high-risk situations in guarding the safety of court personnel and the public.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Assists in the coordination the security services of court security staff assigned to the superior court and justice courts located throughout Pinal County.
  • Performs duties of Court Security Officer and participates in required training.
  • Assigns tasks, creates schedules and supervises the work activities of subordinates.
  • May act on behalf of the Security Manager in the supervisor's absence or as appropriate.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, and counseling of court security staff.
  • Participates in the establishment of employee goals, monitoring and evaluating performance, addressing performance issues and performance appraisals with assigned staff.
  • Responsible for the training of new and existing court security staff; provides mentoring and performance feedback to officers.
  • Provides an armed security presence at the public entrance and throughout the Superior Court building; maintains a visible presence as a deterrent to those who might consider disturbing the operations or security of the courthouse.
  • Responds to medical emergencies and renders first aid and CPR as a first responder.
  • May be assigned to the entry security screening teams responsible for screening all persons, bags, briefcases, packages, containers, etc., entering Court buildings.
  • May assist Security Manager in responding to and resolving visitor and security incidents and complaints by investigating, identifying resolutions, discussing options with management, and implementing effective resolutions.
  • May be assigned to development, implementation and/or coordination of court security officer training requirements.
  • May serve, as directed, as a security escort or as a security presence in a variety of court situations.
  • Carries and safely employs court-approved and issued firearms and/or other defensive weapons as situations dictate.
  • Prepares and submits reports on security incidences.
  • Implements emergency procedures as directed and when appropriate.
  • Monitors and operates multiple CCTV monitors and cameras in order to conduct video surveillance and record activities at varied locations from a central station.
  • Monitors radios and responds to security/panic alarms.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records and restricted County information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience as a security officer, military police officer, law enforcement officer corrections officer and/or in a high-level security field involving public contact. Preference will be given for prior lead and/or supervisory experience overseeing armed officers.
  • Must be 21 years of age at time of hire.
  • Arizona residentsmust have a valid Arizona Driver’s License upon hire;newly established Arizona Residents must have onewithin 30 days of hire.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Special Requirements:
  • Must be able to qualify and maintain defensive tactics and firearms qualification in accordance with Superior Court Security policies and procedures within 45 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of law enforcement techniques, investigative procedures, local law enforcement rules and jurisdictions, security principles and methods.
  • Knowledge of the usage of security equipment, courtroom procedures, and the principles and practices of building evacuation.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and performance management.
  • Ability to evaluate and respond to security problems in a swift, effective manner, and with appropriate actions.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks, projects and demands, work within deadlines to complete projects and assignments, and identify effective resolutions to incidents.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply relevant city, county, state and federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, administrative orders, and other relevant directives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, County employees, representatives from governmental agencies, the general public, and individuals who have business with Pinal County Superior Court.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer using Microsoft Office and some specialized software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with judges.
  • Ability to perform first aid and CPR methods and techniques.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Independent body mobility to stand, walk, run, bend, go up and down stairs and stand or sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see and read; hear and speak to communicate with citizens in person and over the phone. The ability to communicate effectively, interrogate and interview people, discern noises that may require investigation, and perform telephone and radio communication; perform surveillance, sight and shoot a firearm safely and effectively, and coordinate and conduct investigations. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Office/Court setting. Will be required to work with individuals that may be resistant, antagonistic, and/or hostile.
