The City of Chesterfield is accepting applications for the position of Court Clerk.
This is a clerical/accounting position for the Municipal Court. Work involves the performance of a variety of clerical and accounting functions, including but not limited to keyboard entry, accepting and opening all of the court mail, and processing of traffic tickets. Position requires use of Microsoft Office, ShowMeCourts applications and collection of fines and costs. Attendance at evening court sessions required. Responsibilities include frequent contact with the public. Specific job responsibilities will be defined by the Municipal Court Administrator.
RESPONSIBILITIESPrincipal Duties and Responsibilities
Act as Violations Bureau Clerk by assisting all walk-in customers.
Process traffic tickets by downloading into ShowMeCourts thru the PA Portal and printing said tickets to create a court fie.
Assemble and prepare court files for traffic cases filed by the Prosecutor. File the files in appropriate locations by court dates.
Receive and separate all mail for the court and record all payments received by mail and in person and balance all deposits. Record partial payments and mail appropriate correspondence to defendant and/or attorney.
Answer most incoming phone calls to court office and direct said calls to other court personnel as necessary.
Attend court sessions as required by Court Administrator and handles the payment of fines and costs in court, and assist in the courtroom as needed.
Separate and file all closed files per the record retention schedule, COR 8.
Assists in preparing and clearing court dockets as needed.
Assists in processing attorney entries on cases and filing the appropriate motions from attorneys as needed.
Assume responsibility of court office in the absence of the Court Administrator and Assistant Court Administrator.
Perform all other related duties as deemed necessary by the Court Administrator.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of court and legal procedures. Past experience in a municipal court is preferred. Ability to handle and process fines and costs and keep accurate records of payments. Skill in the operation of office machines and equipment utilizing alpha-numeric keyboards. Ability to communicate with the public in a professional manner.
High school diploma or GED supplemented by general clerical or bookkeeping training or legal experience. Municipal court experience preferred. Show-Me Courts software experience preferred. Certified thru MSU or working toward certification preferred.
COMPENSATION
This is a non-exempt position with a starting annual rate of $45,520.
