Board Reporter

Location: 315 Court Street, Clearwater, FL 33756

Schedule: Once training is complete, there are opportunities for some remote work. Some meetings are held outside of normal business hours, and off-site meetings will require local travel.

Would you like to learn more about the internal operations of county government? Become a Board Reporter for the Pinellas County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller! Ideal candidates will have excellent compositional skills, computer skills, be highly organized, write with a keen attention to detail, and have worked closely with government boards and committees.

Performs highly advanced work, including attending and recording meetings, preparing verbatim transcripts, and writing accurate and concise minutes of County boards and committees. The Board Reporter utilizes a laptop computer, recording equipment, and various software.

What Would You Do?

  • Prepare accurate verbatim transcripts
  • Compose accurate and concise minutes by utilizing transcripts, audio recordings, and backup materials
  • Ensure pertinent data is included in minutes and that information is accurately reflected as a matter of public record

What Do You Need To Have?

Experience - Writing with clarity, conciseness, and impartiality that preserves official actions.

  • 4 years of experience as described above; or
  • Associate degree and at least 2 years of experience as described above; or
  • Bachelor’s or higher-level degree and some experience as described above.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to accurately type at 55 words per minute
  • Ability to work a variety of work schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations
  • Must be able to travel to frequent meetings held in a variety of locations across the County

Highly Desirable

  • Possess skills and abilities to attend and record, using a digital audio recording system, meetings of various boards and committees for the purpose of preparing transcripts and minutes
  • Possess skills to prepare follow-up agendas summarizing actions taken by the Board of County Commissioners
  • Possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to compose minutes by utilizing transcripts, audio recordings, and backup materials
  • Knowledge and skill in minute-taking for government committees are highly desired

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of business English and grammar, spelling, arithmetic, and modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
  • Skill in the use of small office and computer equipment
  • Ability to prepare documents, compose letters and memoranda, and interpret and summarize verbatim transcripts and condense them into minute form
  • Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions and make decisions in accordance with rules and regulations
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing

  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public

  • This position involves lifting a wireless kit up to 50 lbs.
