Position Overview
The Accounting Manager will lead all aspects of cost accounting and financial operations within a manufacturing environment. This role is highly hands-on and requires a professional who can drive cost visibility, improve operational efficiency, and support strategic decision-making through detailed financial analysis.
This individual will partner closely with operations and leadership to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and financial reporting, while continuously improving processes and controls.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance
- Lead all cost accounting functions, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation
- Analyze material, labor, and overhead costs to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for margin improvement
- Partner with operations to monitor production performance, cost drivers, and KPIs
- Oversee month-end close related to cost accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting
- Maintain and improve standard cost systems and ensure accurate BOMs and routings
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports with a focus on manufacturing performance
- Conduct forecasting, budgeting, and financial modeling to support business planning
- Provide actionable insights to leadership on cost control, profitability, and operational efficiency
Operational & Process Improvement
- Drive ERP system enhancements and implementations, particularly related to cost accounting modules
- Develop and refine internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy
- Collaborate cross-functionally with supply chain, production, and procurement teams
Leadership & Oversight
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering a high-performance, accountable team environment
- Support audits, compliance requirements, and external reporting as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant cost accounting in manufacturing
- 5+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Strong expertise in:
- Cost accounting methodologies (standard costing, variance analysis)
- Inventory management and controls
- ERP systems (manufacturing environments preferred)
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
