Carteret Community College accepts applications for adjunct (part-time/substitute) positions in the Cosmetology/Esthetics Technology program on a continuous basis. Part-time and/or substitute instructor appointments are made on a semester-by-semester and/or as needed basis. Minimum hourly rate is $29.67 per contact hour of instruction; hourly rate may be higher dependent on education.
If you meet the minimum qualifications, your application will be included in the adjunct pool for possible assignments in the fall, spring, and/or summer semesters of the academic year. The Spa Services Chairperson will utilize the adjunct pool when there is a need and will contact you directly should you possess the required qualifications. Applications are purged approximately two years from submittal, at which time you may re-apply if you wish to remain in the pool.

Primary duties of adjunct faculty members are related to curriculum and teaching; the assignment is divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department.
Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
Teach all scheduled classes.
Maintain accurate records.
Provide quality instruction, create and maintain an environment which emphasizes teaching and learning.
Education:
Certificate as Cosmetology Instructor from an 800 hour accredited program, or as an Esthetician Instructor from a 650 hour accreditation program.
Certificate/Diploma in Cosmetology from a 1200/1500 hour accredited program, or as an Esthetician from a 600 hour accredited program.
Preferred: Associate’s degree in a field related to the courses being taught.
Licensing:
North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art License in Cosmetology/Esthetician.
North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art License as Cosmetology Instructor/Esthetician Instructor.
Maintain CEU’s as set forth by the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art.
Knowledge & Skills:
Teaching and administrative experience leading to this level of responsibility. Demonstration of skills in the areas of: Cosmetology or Esthetics, communication, organization, and managing multiple priorities; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, community groups, and others; and demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative team environment.
Knowledge of North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners laws, rules and regulations
Skilled in use of instructional equipment to include hair steamer, hooded dryer, tesla high frequency current machine, and thermal styling tools.
Skilled in use of Computers, to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Have knowledge of salon-based record keeping software (Discovery Pro). Accountable for daily funds generated by patron services.
Have knowledge of Pivot Point Lab for Cosmetology Education.
Have knowledge of Milady Standard Esthetics for Esthetics Education.
