Your Role 

Blue Shield of California is seeking a dedicated Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Program Manager for a two-year contingent assignment to restore, maintain, and evolve our EH&S program. This role is critical to ensuring regulatory compliance, workplace safety, and environmental stewardship across our corporate locations. The successful candidate will lead efforts to bring the EH&S program back into full compliance, establish sustainable workflows, and collaborate cross-functionally with Human Resources and other departments.

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, implement, and enforce EH&S policies, procedures, and standards. Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory bodies. Conduct job hazard analyses (JHA) and risk assessments.
  • Deliver OSHA-required training (e.g., hazard communication, PPE, emergency response). Facilitate fire safety, ergonomics, and workplace violence prevention training. Organize and lead safety drills (e.g., fire, earthquake, active shooter, chemical spill).
  • Investigate workplace accidents, near-misses, and injuries. Prepare incident reports and identify root causes. Recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and Business Continuity Plans (BCPs). Coordinate with local emergency services (fire, EMS, law enforcement). Establish evacuation procedures and emergency communication systems.
  • Ensure adherence to EPA regulations and environmental standards. Manage hazardous materials, chemical storage, and disposal. Support green initiatives to reduce environmental impact.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments and recommend improvements. Develop wellness programs to enhance employee health and productivity. Oversee hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and air quality programs.
  • Perform regular facility inspections and hazard identification. Review PPE compliance and emergency equipment readiness. Ensure proper safety signage and exit accessibility.
  • Enforce safety protocols for third-party vendors and contractors. Review and approve contractor safety plans and risk assessments.
  • Maintain and submit OSHA 300, 301, and 300A logs. Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for hazardous chemicals. Prepare for and support regulatory audits.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across the organization. Encourage employee participation in safety committees. Implement behavior-based safety (BBS) programs.
