This position is responsible for providing legal advice to the Associate General Counsel(s), the General Counsel, employees and the management team.
The position is primarily virtual (possibly once a month in the office) and is approximately a three-month long assignment. While there is a possibility to transition to a full-time employee.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
-Negotiate, draft, and revise legal agreements, such as vendor contracts, leases and other commercial agreements
-Provide legal advice and counsel to management on a variety of legal matters
-Ensure the cooperative’s operations and activities comply with applicable laws and regulations
-Conduct legal research and related to legal, regulatory, and corporate governance issues
-Manage and direct litigation in consultation with superiors in assigned cases, including discovery responses, witness preparation, strategy, mediation, negotiation and resolution
-Monitor and maintain awareness of industry legal issues and provide updates when required
-Manage and oversee the activities of outside counsel
-Provide employees with guidance in handling difficult or complex legal and regulatory matters, in addition to other matters involving risk and in resolving escalated complaints or disputes
-Implement corporate and departmental policies and procedures in conjunction with management
-Teach and instruct employees in duties that require coordination with the legal department and legal input -Establish prioritization of responsibilities and exercise time management skills
-Establish metrics and prepare monthly reports for areas of responsibility
-Coordinate activities with other departments
-Maintain the security of confidential information -Stay abreast of advances in technology
-Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
-Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
Required Skills & Experience
-Bachelor’s degree
-Juris Doctor degree -Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas
-Three years of experience practicing law preferred
-Experience in real estate transactions and/or labor and employment law preferred - The sole responsibility of the position is to review contracts.
-Valid Texas Driver’s License
