The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is currently seeking a full time Core Desk Coordinator to work in Miami. The Core Desk Coordinator assumes responsibility for the daily management and efficient coordination of the surgical case load, staffing availability, and OR room start times and room turnover. The Core Desk Coordinator provides direct and indirect care to assigned patients and supervises assigned personnel. Moreover, the incumbent formulates and implements individualized plans of care and evaluates patients’ response to care and treatment.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Creates and assesses the daily schedule to plan optimal staff utilization and functioning of the operative schedule.

  • Maintains effective lines of communication with all necessary personnel and surgical services departments.

  • Notifies surgeons, anesthesiologists, SPU and PACU personnel of time changes and added operative cases.

  • Communicates all staffing needs and scheduling changes to appropriate supervisory personnel.

  • Anticipates potential scheduling problems and exhibits proactive management.

  • Estimates room and time availability for schedule changes and/or added cases.

  • Documents data regarding problematic areas on master schedule.

  • Coordinates delivery of appropriate specimens to the Pathology Department.

  • Resolves daily narcotic discrepancies and prepares a weekly discrepancy report.

  • Maintains accurate documentation of required quality control and department logs.

  • Attends departmental and unit based meetings or acknowledges review of notes and minutes.

  • Participates in hospital risk management program by reporting all unusual occurrences.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required

Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida RN license and BLS required

Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
