AMERICAN FILM INSTITUTE JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Coordinator, Multimedia and Digital Systems DEPARTMENT: AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center (Onsite) LOCATION: Silver Spring, MD PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Coordinator, Multimedia and Digital Systems supports the Manager, Multimedia and Digital Systems in the day-to-day technical and creative operations of the AFI Silver Theatre. As an integral member of the AFI Silver Technical Department, this role assists in the operation, maintenance, and management of the theatre’s digital cinema and multimedia technology systems. The Coordinator provides technical support to internal staff and rental clients to ensure high-quality presentations and overall client satisfaction. The position also contributes to a range of multimedia initiatives, including the design and production of print materials, motion graphics and, edited video content for in-house use and digital platforms, including social media. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: • Assemble and evaluate 2K and 4K Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs), HD, and other video sources for on-screen playback, including downloading and encoding multi-format, multi-channel content for computers, digital cinema servers/projectors, and digital signage systems. • Load and manage encryption keys, features, trailers, and other DCP content on applicable servers. • Create show playlists and weekly screening schedules in accordance with Programming Department specifications rental event requirements. • Operate Crestron control systems, Audiovisual (AV) production equipment, display devices, and conferencing technology for internal and external clients, including cameras, microphones, audio mixing consoles, lighting, graphics, and editing equipment. • Collaborate with rental clients and AFI staff to assess event needs and support planning and execution to ensure successful outcomes and client satisfaction. • Train AFI Silver staff and contractors on the proper operation of multimedia and presentation systems. • Edit trailers, promotional content, and client materials using AFI software and hardware platforms. • Design print, and digital graphics supporting the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center. • Assist with lighting, filming, recording interviews, and capturing creative visual content. • Maintain, clean, and inspect equipment to ensure optimal technical performance and presentation quality. • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED • High School Diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred. • Minimum two (2) years of experience working with audiovisual (A/V) and Digital Cinema Projection equipment. • Working knowledge of: o DCP creation software. hard drives, servers, cameras, and camcorders. o Professional audio equipment, cameras, and studio/field lighting and production environments. • Familiarity with video routing systems and Crestron and Q-SYS control systems preferred. • Familiarity with Dolby and multi-channel encoding, routing, and decoding. • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to emerging and evolving technology. • Experience with software such as DaVinci Resolve, Pro Tools, and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, After Effects, Audition, Premiere) preferred. • Ability to troubleshoot commercial-grade audiovisual and theatrical equipment and perform basic maintenance. • Experience supporting live events, with an ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders. • Familiarity with 70mm and 35mm projection equipment and Theater Management Systems preferred. • Possess the visual acuity, hearing, manual dexterity, and mechanical aptitude necessary to ensure high-quality multimedia presentations. • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain documentation, and follow up appropriately, while keeping broader priorities in focus. • Strong time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment. • Maintain a positive, professional demeanor and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts and procedures into clear simplistic terms. • Demonstrated diplomacy and professionalism, including the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion. • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, deadlines-driven environment. • Ability to safely lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. • Flexibility to work occasional early morning, evening, and weekend as operational needs require. Salary Range: $50,000 – $55,000
