We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team in Holland, MI. This individual will work closely with Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, and Sales teams to design and implement electrical schematics and control systems for bulk material handling equipment and integrated systems. The role involves managing multiple projects of varying complexity, delivering high-quality, client-focused solutions on time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop HMI and PLC programming for our clients equipment, including turnkey solutions that integrate seamlessly with customer systems.
- Create electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical, including standard component selection, schematic development, control panel layout, bill of materials, terminal box layouts, and component tag generation.
- Support the creation of various documentation, such as wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, conduit schedules, harness lists, instrument lists, I/O lists, and other documents as specified by customer requirements.
- Ensure all project deliverables meet or exceed client specifications and/or clients standards.
- Ensure control systems comply with relevant safety standards, participating in risk assessments to mitigate potential hazards.
- Lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) onsite, with or without customer presence.
- Provide diagnostic and troubleshooting support for control system issues, both on-site and remotely.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance control system designs and improve operational efficiency.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with AutoCAD Electrical.
- Proficiency in Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC programming.
- Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical systems.
- Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC ) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA ) code.
- Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Experience with hazardous areas is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while delivering high-quality results.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position may require up to 20% travel for site visits, customer interactions, and project support.
