Our client, a public company, is seeking a hands-on Controller with prior non-profit management experience to lead accounting operations and support the organization’s financial management needs. This role will oversee a team and be actively involved in the close process, financial statement preparation, budgeting, and grants oversight. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, technical accounting knowledge, and experience working in a nonprofit environment. This is a fully in-office position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and mentor the accounting team while remaining hands-on in daily and month-end accounting activities.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis.
  • Prepare and review accurate financial statements and related internal reporting.
  • Lead the development and monitoring of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Oversee grants management, including tracking, reporting, compliance, and related financial oversight.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and all supporting schedules.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting processes, and financial procedures.
  • Partner with leadership to provide financial insight and support strategic decision-making.
  • Assist with audit preparation and serve as a key point of contact for external auditors.
  • Utilize MIP Abila or similar accounting systems to manage financial operations; MIP Abila experience is strongly preferred.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including management responsibility.
  • Prior non-profit management experience required.
  • Strong hands-on experience with close, financial statement preparation, budgeting, grants management, and team oversight.
  • Experience leading or mentoring an accounting team required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA is a plus.
  • MIP Abila experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fully onsite environment.
