Our client is seeking an accomplished Controller to join the executive leadership team and oversee all financial operations that drive organizational performance and long-term growth. As a key financial leader, the Controller will ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, support strategic planning, and partner closely with operations, sales, and executive leadership to enhance profitability and efficiency across the company.
Key Responsibilities & Core Competencies
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and present accurate monthly and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, AR/AP reporting, and cash flow statements.
- Coordinate tax preparation, reviewed financial statements, and annual ESOP valuations with external accounting and valuation firms.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal tax agencies, regulatory bodies, and all required filings.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Management
- Develop annual budgets across all P&L accounts and monitor expenditures throughout the year.
- Provide ongoing monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting and variance analysis.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, credit lines, loan negotiations, and overall organizational debt.
Accounting Operations & Internal Controls
- Maintain an accurate general ledger, ensuring all transactions, AR, and AP entries are posted properly.
- Reconcile accounts with customers and vendors and work with the sales manager to monitor customer credit terms, reducing exposure to collections or bankruptcy situations.
- Develop, implement, and enforce financial controls, policies, and procedures to protect company assets and ensure efficient financial operations.
- Optimize accounting and operational software systems to maximize data accuracy and workflow efficiency.
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities that strengthen the company’s financial health.
- Provide strategic recommendations to executive leadership regarding capital investments, operational improvements, and long-term financial planning.
- Support cross-functional teams in aligning financial insights with operational decision-making.
KPI Development & Operational Support
- Collaborate with operations to develop key performance indicators for cost centers and identify areas to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Create metrics that measure profitability of warehouse inventory, stocked items, and product lines.
- Deliver clear, actionable reports that enhance operational performance and support leadership’s strategic objectives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive financial experience, including at least 3 years in a financial leadership role.
- Experience in manufacturing or distribution environments is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and present insights clearly.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building abilities.
- Proficiency with accounting and operational software; strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and drive continuous improvement.
