This is a full-time hybrid role for a Controller at LBMC W Squared. The Controller reports to the Director of Finance & Accounting Operations / Chief Accounting Officer and will be responsible for providing professional, skilled accounting and supervision, while maintaining a focus on the success of W Squared and its clients. We are located in Brentwood, TN, and have hybrid working schedules with 2 days in the office and 3 days remote.


Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required/ MBA preferred

•8+ years of accounting experience

•Supervisory experience required


Job Duties/ Responsibilities:

•While the Controller’s responsibilities include specific daily activities and projects, there are also certain general responsibilities associated with being a member of a W Squared client service team.

•Maximizing value for W Squared – recognizing the relationship between the company’s success and personal success – asking the question, “Do my actions add value to W Squared?”

•Being a partner with your client – in a role with frequent client interaction, the Controller is the executive contact and Relationship Manager for the W Squared team, and should be focused on a partnership approach with the client. Remember – our clients ARE our business. Therefore, it is expected to be available and responsive to clients as needed.

•Team training and development – accountable for the direct training and development of Accounting team members. The success of the Accounting team is the responsibility of the Controller.


Regular daily/monthly activities may include:

•Maintaining frequent and appropriate communications with client(s)

•Acting as the Relationship Manager for clients, including the management of sensitive client issues if they arise

•Overseeing and prioritizing the Accounting team’s tasks on a weekly/monthly basis

•Establish and implement efficient process workflows as necessary

•Reviewing and managing the Accounting team’s monthly utilization

•Reviewing monthly financial packages at a high level

•Owning the quality and success of the monthly close process

•Organizing and leading monthly cross-departmental meetings, as necessary

•Providing strategic financial guidance to clients in various industries

•Assessing cash flow issues, as necessary

• Budgeting/forecasting, as necessary

•Reviewing property tax returns, business licenses, and annual reports

•Coordinating and managing audit and tax communications

•Reviewing audit and tax packages, as necessary

•Acting as a technical accounting resource for the team and department

•Acting as a mentor and/or buddy for assigned employees


EXPECTATIONS

•Manage Projects and Staff Effectively – Act as executive manager of the Accounting team; provide the Accounting team with direct guidance and training.

•Take Initiative and Responsibility – Assist the team in prioritizing projects and tasks. Be proactive in communicating with the Director of F&A Operations or Chief Accounting Officer if you have resource constraints or excess capacity.

•Manage Roles of the Team – Ensure that projects and tasks are completed with attention to efficiency, quality, and deadlines. Hold team and client(s) accountable for accuracy and timeliness of their respective tasks.

•Strive for Improvement – Discover areas for process improvement in order to advance customer service, identify efficiencies in the close process, expand capacity, and further professional growth and responsibilities.

•Value Communication – Maintain open communication with team members on progress, responsibilities, and expectations. Ensure any and all issues with meeting deadlines are raised to the Director of F&A Operations or the Chief Accounting Officer immediately. Also, take responsibility for communicating with client(s) on a regular basis regarding any strategic assistance you can provide.
