The Control Engineer (Automation Engineering Advisor) holds advanced responsibility for the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of pharmacy automation systems. You’ll serve as a technical leader—driving solutions that improve uptime, safety, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Provide troubleshooting, installation, and repair support for automated production equipment, including electrical controls, PLCs, robotics, applications, and data systems.
- Serve as a technical authority for robot‑ and PLC‑based hardware and software, ensuring system stability and performance.
- Diagnose automation issues using electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic drawings, schematics, and specialized diagnostic tools.
- Lead the planning and implementation of automation enhancements to improve process quality and equipment performance.
- Drive continuous improvement through data analysis, functional reviews, and participation in reliability and optimization studies.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to evaluate, design, and implement new or enhanced automation technologies.
- Support operational readiness and disaster recovery efforts by ensuring automation systems can be rapidly restored and stabilized.
- Deliver technical training and knowledge transfer to Electro‑Mechanical Technicians and fellow Pharmacy Automation Engineers.
- Perform root cause analysis using Systematic Problem Solving (SPS) methodologies and implement sustainable fixes.
- Ensure critical spare parts are available by validating inventory and coordinating part ordering.
- Contribute to project milestones and ensure automation systems meet performance, reliability, and safety expectations.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience troubleshooting automated control systems in a production or manufacturing environment, including emergency and corrective maintenance.
- Advanced electrical troubleshooting expertise.
- Hands‑on experience programming and troubleshooting PLC‑based systems.
- Proven ability to work effectively during off‑hours, including occasional weekends, to support operational requirements.
- Ability to travel up to 5% for training, as needed.
- Willingness and ability to work second (afternoon) shift.
- This role is worksite‑dependent and must be performed onsite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Programming and troubleshooting experience using RSLogix platforms (500 and 5000).
- Experience with automation and visualization tools such as RSView, Cognex, DeviceNet, and FANUC/ADEPT robotics.
- Advanced electro‑mechanical and pneumatic troubleshooting capabilities.
- Proficient use of precision tools and procedures for repairing complex electro‑mechanical machinery.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
