WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Consultant, Tunnel Engineer for our San Francisco, CA office.  WSP USA operates with a Hybrid-Workplace Model. Your Impact

  • Perform geotechnical analysis and design of foundations, embankments/cuts, tunnels, support of excavations, and earth retaining systems for transportation/water/energy projects and 
  • Prepare geotechnical calculations and conduct numerical modeling including slope stability, seepage and consolidation and retaining wall design
  • Prepare geotechnical memorandum, data and design reports
  • Assist with preparation of engineering design plans and specifications, estimating quantities for cost estimates, project schedules, and design documentation.
  • Provide geotechnical support during construction
  • Conduct geotechnical investigations and develop laboratory testing programs
  • Conduct field inspection of geotechnical construction
     

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • 2-5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering
  • Educational background and interest in tunneling and geotechnical engineering. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledgeable of 2D and 3D finite element geotechnical and soil structure interaction modeling
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MS software, AutoCAD, Python, numerical modeling software, and MATLAB.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Engineering focus
  • Experience on tunnel and underground transportation projects.
  • Experience using commercially available geotechnical software (i.e. Ensoft, Bentley, Rocscience, Itasca, GeoMotions)
  • FE/EIT (or ability to obtain EIT within 1 year)
  • Ability and willingness to travel for field work

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $90,000 - $110,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
