Job Title: Construction Superintendent – Life Science / Manufacturing

Job Description

This role oversees day-to-day construction activities on a large pharmaceutical lab project, with a focus on life science and manufacturing environments. The Construction Superintendent leads field operations, coordinates union subcontractors, manages schedules and quality, and ensures that safety, budget, and project objectives are consistently met. The position offers the opportunity to gain extensive experience in pharmaceutical construction while working on complex, long-term projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assume primary responsibility for activities associated with specific trades on assigned construction sites.
  • Lead assigned vendors and subcontractors to achieve project goals, including safety, quality, schedule, and cost targets.
  • Manage daily union subcontractors and align their work to weekly project schedules.
  • Ensure all assigned projects meet applicable safety objectives and comply with corporate safety programs.
  • Ensure projects meet all applicable quality requirements and standards for life science and manufacturing facilities.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the project budget for assigned trades and identify exceptions throughout project execution.
  • Support the Project Director, Project Manager, and Construction Manager in developing and maintaining preconstruction, construction, and closeout execution plans.
  • Support the development and maintenance of project schedules, including targeted and actual activities, durations, and sequencing logic.
  • Support the Project Director and Project Manager in preparing change control documentation and related financial documentation, vigorously protecting corporate positions.
  • Oversee the work of assigned vendors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with quality and contractual requirements.
  • Participate in constructibility reviews of design documents and provide practical field input.
  • Support the Project Director and Project Manager in procuring and coordinating all required external project resources.
  • Work with project leadership to conduct pre-bid walk-throughs and de-scope meetings with potential subcontractors and vendors.
  • Support the Project Manager in evaluating vendor and subcontractor invoices and assist in assessing requests for payment against actual field performance.
  • Manage subcontractor and vendor field time-and-material (T&M) change requests, evaluating their legitimacy in terms of contractual requirements and cost validity.

Essential Skills

  • 5–15 years of Construction Superintendent experience, preferably in life science or manufacturing environments; healthcare construction experience may be considered.
  • Proven experience managing field construction activities on complex projects, ideally in pharmaceutical or lab facilities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Summit, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.09 - $79.32/hr.
