Job Summary:

The Construction Commodity Manager supports high‑voltage (HV) substation projects by sourcing, negotiating, and managing subcontractor and supplier partnerships across electrical, civil, and building scopes of work. This role partners closely with engineering, project management, and vendors to support accurate cost estimating, competitive proposals, and continuous cost improvement.


Key Responsibilities

• Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotes for HV substation projects, covering electrical installation, civil, and building scopes.

• Negotiate pricing, scope, schedules, and contract terms to align with project and commercial objectives.

• Review RFQ packages from engineering to ensure completeness and readiness prior to release.

• Collaborate with engineering, project teams, vendors, and equipment manufacturers to support detailed cost estimates and proposal development.

• Maintain and grow a national subcontractor and supplier network to support current and future projects.

• Evaluate market conditions, identify cost‑reduction opportunities, and drive supplier‑led savings initiatives.

• Support coordinated bid reviews by validating scope, schedule, and commercial alignment across stakeholders


REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.

• 5+ years of experience in construction‑related project management, estimating, procurement, or purchasing.

• General construction knowledge with the ability to interpret scopes, drawings, and RFQs.

• Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.

• Proven ability to work as a strong individual contributor while influencing cross‑functional teams. • Great communication and ability to build relationships with suppliers/vendors


NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience supporting high‑voltage substation or electrical infrastructure projects.

• Knowledge of electrical systems and components used in HV substation construction.

• Experience managing subcontractor relationships across multiple regions or nationwide.

• Familiarity with cost‑reduction initiatives, supplier optimization, or strategic sourcing.


Compensation:

$42/hr to $48/hr.


Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.


Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
