Do you have a passion for community tennis and a drive to help it thrive locally? The Springfield-Greene County Park Board is looking for a dedicated individual to lead its Community Tennis section. In this role, you’ll plan, organize, and oversee tennis programs and facilities while also serving as both an on-court instructor and program manager—offering a unique blend of hands-on teaching and leadership responsibilities.

What to Expect:
  • Leads the development and implementation of curriculum for Cooper Tennis Academy and Community Tennis programs.
  • Facility management of Cooper Tennis Complex.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to design programs and expand community outreach efforts.
  • Recruits, hires, and trains instructional staff.
  • Evaluates classes, providing ongoing training and performance feedback to teaching staff.
  • Facilitates player and parent education sessions, sharing current trends in junior development and offering guidance on tournaments and pathways for growth.
  • Supports budget management, including monitoring revenue and expenses.
  • Organizes and oversees leagues and tournaments within Community Tennis and in partnership with organizations such as USTA, UTR, and ITT.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates strong financial insight and budgeting expertise.
  • Prior facility management experience.
  • Proven success in organizing and managing tournaments.
  • Experience leading teams of teaching professionals or tennis athletes in a collaborative, effective manner.
  • Excellent communication skills with players, parents, coaches, and colleagues.
  • Highly organized and able to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dedicated to expanding the game through innovative programs and community outreach.

About Cooper Tennis Complex:Cooper Tennis Complex offers tennis lessons, leagues and play for all ages. The complex includes 12 indoor courts and 17 outdoor lighted courts, including the 2,500-seat stadium court. Cooper Tennis Complex also has a full-service pro shop with racquet stringing and grip services, locker rooms with showers, a fitness room with exercise equipment and free weights, a small conference room and a large furnished meeting area.
Cooper Tennis Complex opened in 1994 and had a major expansion in 2006. It has been named:
  • 2000 USTA Outstanding Tennis Facility
  • 2006 USTA Missouri Valley Section Facility of the Year
  • 2016, 2022, 2023, & 2024 USTA Missouri Valley Facility of the Year
  • 2025 USTA Missouri Valley Member Organization of the Year



Experience, Education, and Training

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Business Management, Facility Management, Sports Management, or a closely related area;
AND
  • Three years of experience in supervising and coaching tennis programs;
PREFERRED
  • Prior tennis facility management experience.

Licensing/Certification
  • If operating a motor vehicle for the purpose of completing job duties, must possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred
  • Certified Park & Recreation Professional (CPRP) is desirable.
  • United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) and or United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) preferred or should be obtained within probationary period.
