DEFINITION
Under direct supervision, performs a variety of tasks in the support of the Hemet Fire & Life Safety Agency’s mission to provide a clean and sanitary city in accordance with the Hemet Strategic Plan, and the agency’s Community Risk Reduction program. Provide a multi-faceted opportunity to explore the various public-safety pathways through direct exposure to fire prevention, code enforcement, and building & safety disciplines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Field work:
The ability to receive and comply with direction given by a supervisor and/or other agency management.
Help with clean-ups off city streets (shopping carts, furniture, homeless items - etc.)
Uses a variety of hand and power tools, machines, and light equipment.
May assist in abatement and other CRR functions.
Assists Code Compliance Officers, Fire Prevention, and Building Inspectors in the performance of related tasks.
Initial inspection on complaints from the public (verify only).
Handout educational pamphlets (AVA-Drought Tolerance Landscaping, Temporary Advertising Signs– Common Code Violation, etc.…)
The ability to demonstrate a positive attitude, quality of work and communication skills with supervisors and co-workers through positive mentorship.
Other duties as assigned
Office work:
Review, acknowledge, and response to emails, phone or online complaints from public.
Open cases through appropriate tracking software.
Various clerical activities related to DLS action items, which may include typing letters, creating, printing, or copying documents
Assisting office support staff with other clerical duties as assigned.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Requirements:
Position may require the need to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.Additionally, the incumbent in this position will work in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold. Cadet will be provided the appropriate uniform and safety equipment based on the work task assigned for the day.
