Dallas Housing Coalition is dedicated to advocating for the creation and preservation of attainable housing across the Dallas region for all. We are seeking a Communications and Events Coordinator who will play a critical role in shaping our public presence, engaging our network, and executing high-impact events that advance our mission.


Job Description 


As the Communications and Events Coordinator, you will lead the Coalition’s communications strategy and oversee the planning and execution of events that mobilize coalition members, stakeholders, and the broader community. Working closely with the Executive Director and our team of Community Organizers, you will ensure our messaging is clear, compelling, and consistent while creating opportunities for meaningful engagement through both digital platforms and in-person experiences. Your work will strengthen the Coalition’s visibility, deepen relationships, and support advocacy efforts across Dallas.


Key Responsibilities 


Communications Strategy & Content Development 


  • Develop and implement a cohesive communications strategy aligned with organizational goals
  • Draft and distribute newsletters, action alerts, policy briefs, and member communications
  • Manage and grow Dallas Housing Coalition’s social media presence across platforms
  • Create compelling written and visual content that translates housing policy into accessible messaging
  • Maintain brand consistency across all communications channels, specifically Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok


Digital Media & Design


  • Create graphics, presentations, and marketing materials using Canva, CapCut, Mailchimp, and similar tools
  • Produce and edit short-form video content (reels, event recaps, storytelling)
  • Schedule posts in a timely fashion to keep communication channels active
  • Manage website updates and ensure content remains current and engaging
  • Take photos and capture/post content in real-time at Coalition meetings and events


Event Planning & Execution


  • Plan and execute Coalition events, including member meetings, panel discussions, community forums, and special events
  • Coordinate logistics including venue selection, run-of-show, and on-site execution
  • Lead our weekly “Housing for All” webinar series, securing guest speakers and drafting scripts
  • Develop promotional strategies to drive attendance and engagement
  • Ensure events reflect Coalition values and foster meaningful dialogue and connection 


Stakeholder Engagement


  • Advise communications with Coalition members, Steering Committee, Board, and partners
  • Support outreach efforts by developing toolkits, talking points, and event materials
  • Collaborate with community partners to co-host and promote events
  • Help grow and engage the Coalition’s 450+ member network, Youth Ambassadors (YA), and Internship Matching Program (IMP) participants 


Data & Reporting



  • Track communication and event performance using Google Suite and other tools
  • Monitor engagement metrics (email open rates, social growth, event attendance)
  • Use data to refine communications strategies and improve outreach effectiveness
  • Report outcomes and insights to the Executive Director, our team of Community Organizers, DHC Board, Steering Committee, and funders


Qualifications 


Experience 


  • 2+ years of experience in communications, event planning, marketing, or related field
  • Strong fit for post-secondary graduates with relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work
  • Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, housing, or public policy is a plus
  • Experience planning events and managing communications campaigns preferred 
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus


Skills 


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities, with attention to detail
  • Creative mindset with an eye for design, storytelling, and audience engagement
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfort with public speaking, event coordination, and stakeholder interaction
  • Moderate video editing and graphic design skills preferred
  • Familiarity with website management platforms, i.e. SquareSpace, is a plus

This role is located in Dallas, including in-office work with flexibility for remote work. Often requires travel around the city to various community events, both during business hours, on weekends, and in the evenings. We strive to ensure a healthy work-life balance, averaging 40 hours of work weekly.


Compensation: $60,000 annual salary, paid bi-monthly or monthly.


Benefits: We offer $600 per month to fully cover most Marketplace Health and Dental plans. Retirement plan options are forthcoming with employer matching up to a certain percentage included. We offer an unlimited paid time off policy given pre-arranged notice plus federal holidays.
