Job Title: Commodity Buyer

Job Description

Manage, coordinate, and work with suppliers and internal stakeholders to meet project timelines and company financial goals. You will lead multiple procurement projects across the company platform, collaborating with cross-functional teams to build and execute project implementation plans and sourcing strategies. This role is critical in driving procurement strategies, productivity, and continuous improvement. As the project leader, you will monitor active projects, update statuses, eliminate roadblocks, and escalate issues when necessary. This is a full-time temporary on-site position for 6 months with a possibility of extension for an additional 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for procurement goals and metrics including productivity, risk mitigation, supplier quality, on-time delivery, and addressing any gaps in achieving targets.
  • Define negotiation strategy, mitigate risk, ensure supply, drive productivity and tariff mitigation, define switching costs, and build Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
  • Execute detailed sourcing strategies and manage sourcing projects including RFx, NPD, supplier communications, escalations, and continuous improvement.
  • Deliver commodity productivity through price, tariff mitigation, value analysis (VA), or continuous improvement projects, and support site material and quality escalation needs.
  • Actively monitor and mitigate supplier risk including financial, capacity, quality, and compliance knowledge.
  • Manage multiple procurement projects, working with cross-functional teams and applying standard work to execute implementation plans for productivity, continuous improvement, new product development (NPD) projects, source change, and VAVE programs.
  • Ensure alignment of commodity strategies with Business Unit, Engineering platforms, and Product Management plans and requirements.
  • Evaluate business needs against supplier capabilities to select preferred suppliers who meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements; manage supplier relationships and contracts.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain management, operations, or engineering.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a diversified industrial company in procurement, engineering, project management, quality, finance, or operations.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes at an operational and leadership level.
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship management, creating collaborative environments, facilitating discussions, managing ambiguity, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Project management skills, including developing project plans, execution, and securing alignment with cross-functional partners.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including industry-related software and tools.
  • Professional communication in English, both verbal and written.
  • Strong influencing, negotiating, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.

Work Environment

This is a 6-month temporary position, with the potential to convert to permanent based on performance and opportunities. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8-5 with some flexibility, with in-office work from Monday to Thursday and remote work option on Fridays.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.
