We are currently seeking a Commercial Loan Officer with a primary focus on commercial real estate lending, responsible for originating, structuring, and managing a high-quality CRE loan portfolio while supporting the organization’s growth and risk objectives. This role requires a deep technical understanding of commercial real estate lending practices, credit risk management, and portfolio performance, with a strong emphasis on production, asset quality, and ongoing credit administration.

Requirements

A day in the life of the Commercial Loan Officer will include:


Loan Growth and Portfolio Management

- Achieving or exceeding annual commercial real estate loan production targets, including income-producing, owner-occupied, and investor-owned properties.

-Directly sourcing, structuring, underwriting, and closing CRE transactions, from initial prospecting through funding, which aligns with the organization’s strategic goals and risk tolerance maintaining a robust and accurately risk-graded CRE pipeline aligned with institutional risk appetite.

- Actively managing an assigned CRE portfolio, including covenant monitoring, annual reviews, renewals, extensions, and modifications.

- Collaborating with credit and underwriting teams to facilitate timely loan approvals while maintaining credit discipline.


Coordination with Credit Union Service Organizations (CUSO)

- Working closely with CUSOs on Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and pipeline management for commercial real estate loans.
- Ensuring clear communication and smooth coordination with the CUSOs to facilitate the successful handling of pipeline loans and effective decision-making in the early stages of the lending process.
- Tracking and reporting on the status of EOIs and loans in the pipeline, collaborating with both internal commercial lending team and CUSOs to move deals forward efficiently.


Deposit Growth and Relationship Development

- Driving deposit growth by cross-selling cash management, treasury, and business checking solutions to loan members.
- Developing deposit strategies tied to loan products to ensure a strong balance between loans and deposits.
- Establishing deep, multi-product relationships to increase member “stickiness” and retention.
- Partnering with branch managers and business development officers to grow deposit accounts through business banking referrals.


Member Acquisition and Retention

- Identifying and cultivating relationships with high-potential commercial members through networking, referrals, and community engagement.
- Monitoring and ensuring high levels of member satisfaction and retention through proactive communication and support.
- Attending industry events and represent the institution in business organizations to build brand visibility and attract members.
- Utilizing data analytics to identify growth opportunities within existing relationships. Providing compliance and regulatory oversight to commercial real estate lending practices and procedures ensuring that all CRE lending activities are conducted in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Working closely with management to implement any necessary changes to procedures.


Risk Management and Loan Quality

- Ensuring loans are structured appropriately to mitigate risks while meeting clients’ needs.
- Monitoring the portfolio for early signs of credit deterioration, working with the servicing and collections team to manage delinquent loans.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Conducting periodic portfolio reviews to ensure proper diversification and avoid concentration risks.


Leadership and Collaboration

- Providing leadership, coaching, and mentoring related to CRE lending to business service team, business development and branch managers to drive performance.
- Collaborating with internal departments (credit, treasury, business development, marketing, and operations) to deliver seamless client experiences.
- Fostering a culture of high performance and accountability within the team.
- Working closely with business development and marketing to develop campaigns and promotions that target CRE relationship opportunities.

Revenue and Profitability Goals

- Achieving assignee goals by balancing loan growth with deposit generation and fee income.
- Focusing on building relationships with members that contribute to the profitability of both loan and deposit portfolios.
- Monitoring key portfolio profitability metrics such as loan-to-deposit ratios, interest income, and non-interest income.
- Identifying and mitigating factors affecting loan and deposit portfolio profitability (e.g., pricing, market trends).


Market Awareness and Competitive Positioning

- Staying informed about industry trends, market conditions, and competitor strategies to refine sales tactics.
- Identifying emerging market opportunities and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Developing competitive loan pricing strategies while maintaining margins aligned with the institution’s goals.


Experience/Education

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience within the financial services industry, of which the most recent 5 years must be commercial real estate lending focused.
  • Proven track record in originating, structuring, and managing commercial real estate loans with a strong portfolio growth history.
  • Extensive experience in deposit growth strategies, cross-selling, and relationship management with business clients or members.
  • Deep knowledge of credit analysis, underwriting, and risk management practices within commercial real estate lending.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards within the financial industry.

Pay: $70,000 – $100,000 annually depending on experience and qualifications.
