A respected litigation-focused law firm is seeking a Commercial Litigation Associate Attorney to join its Chicago, Illinois office. This position is ideal for attorneys seeking substantive litigation responsibility, sophisticated case work, and meaningful courtroom experience while working within a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
The successful candidate will manage active litigation matters involving complex commercial disputes, general liability claims, and civil defense matters. Associates will work closely with experienced trial attorneys while developing advanced advocacy, deposition, motion practice, and trial preparation skills.
This position rarely becomes available at this level and is actively interviewing qualified candidates.

Job Responsibilities
• Manage an active commercial litigation and civil defense caseload with guidance from experienced partners
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and other litigation-related documents
• Conduct legal research and develop strategic litigation positions
• Take and defend depositions involving parties, fact witnesses, corporate representatives, and experts
• Appear in state and federal courts for hearings, status conferences, and other proceedings
• Participate in mediations, settlement negotiations, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings
• Develop litigation strategy and evaluate liability, damages, and risk exposure
• Maintain regular communication with clients regarding case developments and legal strategy
• Manage discovery processes, document production, and evidentiary development
• Assist with trial preparation, witness preparation, and courtroom presentation
• Collaborate with litigation teams on complex, high-value disputes for national clients
• Handle matters through resolution, settlement, arbitration, or trial

Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of civil defense or commercial litigation experience
• Active admission to practice law in Illinois
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical abilities
• Experience handling depositions, discovery, and case management responsibilities
• Strong advocacy and motion practice skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational and project management abilities
• Self-motivated with a proactive approach to litigation matters
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with legal teams
• Trial experience preferred
• Federal court experience preferred
• Dual licensure preferred
