Commercial HVAC Technician

The Commercial HVAC Technician installs, services, troubleshoots, and maintains heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems in commercial and industrial facilities. This role ensures that all HVAC equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and applicable codes, while providing clear communication and reliable service to internal teams and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems, including rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, chillers, boilers, and ventilation equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues in HVAC systems to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and system performance checks to maximize equipment efficiency and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and repair motors, compressors, fans, belts, controls, and thermostats to restore proper system operation.
  • Test system functionality after repairs or installations and verify that all equipment operates according to specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to plan and complete installation and service tasks.
  • Charge, recover, and handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA guidelines and environmental best practices.
  • Install, calibrate, and adjust thermostats, sensors, and control systems to ensure accurate temperature and system control.
  • Document all work performed, including parts used and services completed, and accurately complete service tickets and maintenance records.
  • Communicate findings, repair recommendations, and maintenance needs clearly to supervisors, facility staff, or customers.
  • Follow all safety procedures, building codes, and company standards while working on job sites and within facilities.
  • Work independently in commercial environments, managing time and tasks to complete assignments efficiently and safely.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as a commercial HVAC technician or in a similar HVAC service role.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems in commercial applications.
  • EPA 608 certification, or the ability to obtain this certification upon hire.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Solid understanding of HVAC installation, repair, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills for interacting with facility staff and customers.
  • Strong time-management skills to prioritize and complete multiple service calls and tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with building automation systems is a plus.
  • Experience working in commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Comfort using technical manuals and manufacturer documentation to support troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Attention to detail when documenting service work, completing tickets, and maintaining records.

Work Environment

This role operates primarily in commercial and industrial facilities, working on rooftop units, split systems, chillers, boilers, and ventilation equipment. You will frequently use tools and equipment related to HVAC installation, service, and diagnostics, including gauges, meters, and other testing devices. The position involves working both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in mechanical rooms, on rooftops, and in other equipment areas where temperature and noise levels may vary. Work hours typically follow a standard full-time schedule, with the possibility of occasional extended hours depending on service demands. Technicians are expected to follow all safety protocols, adhere to building codes, and maintain a professional appearance appropriate for commercial job sites.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
