The Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission is recruiting for Commercial Fisheries Permit Clerk 3 located in Juneau, Alaska!
What you will be doing:
  • Reviewing incoming permit and vessel license applications for completeness and enters application and fee information on the Revenue Accounting system.
  • Uses word processing software to prepare correspondence necessary to resolve routine application problems.
  • Updates permit data and operate the embossing machine used to issue permit cards.
  • Updates vessel information and print vessel license receipts. Prepare vessel license decals and area stickers.
  • Responds to a large volume of telephone inquiries about permit applications, general limited entry requirements and a variety of fishery issues and regulations.
  • Assists the public at the licensing counter.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally explain complex procedures and requirements to individuals of widely varying backgrounds and cultures.
  • Updates and monitors the archived and purged files.
  • Scans the permanent licensing files.
  • Be a backup for updating the computer system to accurately record filing and release of liens by the loan agencies and send appropriate documentation to the parties involved as well as processing certifications as needed.
  • Assists with several off season projects such as; cleanup projects and reports.

Who we are looking for:
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the core competencies in:
  • Working knowledge of business practices, correspondence and typing formats, including English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Ability to work independently and perform assigned duties with little supervision.
  • Organize work and establish priorities, analyze situations accurately, read, comprehend and interpret written instructions, contracts, laws and regulations.

Special Note:

Valid driver's license required.Under AS 39.25.110(D), the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission (CFEC) is exempt from the provisions of the State Personnel Act, which includes the merit system and recruitment, and this position serves at the pleasure of the Governor.

While no minimum qualifications have been established for this position, the following qualifications are suggested:

Two years of clerical experience reviewing documents which requires knowledge, understanding, and the ability to apply appropriate criteria, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures which govern them.

Proficient computer skills, including experience entering and retrieving data using computerized records systems and computer databases, MS software (Word and Excel), computer printers, and embossing machines.

Demonstrated judgment and discretion to accurately read, interpret, analyze, apply and explain multiple complex policies, procedures, statutes and regulations to a diverse audience, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to multitask, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure with numerous interruptions, without compromising quality or quantity, while remaining calm, professional, organized, and accurate.

Superior positive, professional, and courteous customer service skills with the proven ability to establish and maintain cooperative, effective relationships, both verbally and written, with a diverse group of people with varying: backgrounds; personalities; cultures; education levels; with English as a second language; opinions on complex issues; or who may be dissatisfied.
