The College Receptionist serves as the primary front-desk contact for the institution and provides professional customer service to students, employees, parents, guests, and community partners. This position manages incoming calls, greets visitors, distributes general college information, supports departmental operations, and assists with student-facing activities such as registration, orientation, and campus visit coordination.


The College Receptionist reports to the Executive Administrative Assistant to the President.

  • Operate the main telephone system, route calls to the appropriate office or employee, and record and deliver accurate messages.
  • Greet visitors, students, and walk-in guests in a courteous and professional manner, assess needs, and provide general information about the college.
  • Distribute informational materials such as admissions packets, catalogs, student handbooks, test schedules, scholarship applications, intent-to-graduate forms, and employment applications.
  • Provide administrative support to the instructional division and other assigned departments, including compiling data, preparing reports, and assisting with mail-outs.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail and support routine front-office operations.
  • Maintain accurate communication records and handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Assist students with registration, orientation, and general navigation of college services.
  • Support career assessment and career exploration activities for high school students, adult education students, and prospective students.
  • Assist in scheduling and hosting campus visits, tours, and related outreach activities for schools, business and industry representatives, and prospective students.
  • Use office technology effectively for word processing, recordkeeping, electronic communication, and data management.
  • Participate in staff meetings, division meetings, committee assignments, and campus activities as required.
  • Support college events and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and President.
  • Comply with all applicable college policies and Alabama Community College System requirements.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance, as on-site presence is an essential function of the position.
  • Other tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor and President of the College.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three years’ full-time experience as a receptionist required.
  • Associate Degree in Business Administration preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and remain professional under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and demonstrate typing and word-processing skills of approximately 60 words per minute.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in matters involving students, personnel, and college operations.
