Duties and Responsibilities

  1. **Support Hawaii P-20’s Counseling Director and Program Manager with the development and implementation of the College & Career Transition Navigator (CCTN) Program.
  2. **Manage and directly support a caseload of high school students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, college and career goals.
  3. **Provide leadership to high schools to build high-quality college/career counseling and advising services and programs through monthly meetings, convenings, and facilitated technical assistance workshops.
  4. **Work closely with students planning for college entrance after high school graduation, including supporting the college application process, college entrance requirements, skill development aimed at increasing college success and completion of scholarship applications.
  5. **Collaborate with high school counselor(s), faculty and administration to support academic success, incorporation of career exploration, leadership development and postsecondary planning.
  6. **Work with high schools to support the implementation of the CCTN Program. Identify resources and training necessary for implementation, and organize training and support for the program.
  7. **Understand and apply postsecondary data, including remedial rates, postsecondary intent, persistence, enrollment and demographics, to CCTN programming and CCTN program goal setting.
  8. **Research and understand general postsecondary requirements for enrollment, admission and degree success.
  9. **Work in collaboration with the school counselor/high school to support program areas of postsecondary and career development.
  10. Support the development of new UH & HIDOE resources and update existing counseling & advising material related to the goals of the grant initiatives.
  11. Provide continued support for students and families throughout the year, including development of a summer transition program for recent high school graduates.
  12. **Collect data as outlined by the CCTN steering committee to show initiative growth.
  13. Operate as a support to the student as they transition into postsecondary and throughout their first year of college.
  14. Support Hawaii P-20’s Counseling Director and Program Manager with any facilitated training of professional development.
  15. **Assist the planning and implementation process of various statewide counseling and advising professional development events that support UH and HIDOE educators.
  16. Develop partnerships with other organizations (e.g., high schools, UH campuses, community-based organizations, businesses) to engage support for the CCTN Program.
  17. **Collect data to demonstrate results of the CCTN program; work with evaluators to develop case studies on best practices; disseminate results and lessons learned statewide through conferences, training sessions and workshops.
  18. Perform as a team leader for periodic large-scale events, convening planning committees, engaging and managing vendors, coordinating logistics, and recruiting and supervising volunteers.
  19. Analyze, interpret and implement UH, state and federal guidelines as it pertains to the project.
  20. Communicate with a wide variety of audiences, including Hawaii's traditionally underprivileged & under-served minorities and various officials from the U.S. and State Department of Education, UH faculty, State Legislature, and business community.
  21. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Counseling, Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Work or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for school counseling, teaching, and/or student program planning and coordination; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of school counseling, advising, and/or guidance program administration as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with school counseling, advising and/or guidance program administration.
  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software, and other various software applications (i.e. Microsoft Suite, Google, WebEx, etc.).
  8. If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  9. Experience working with the University of Hawaii, the State of Hawaii Department of Education and/or college access programs in Hawaii.
  10. Experience planning and executing programs and events.
  11. Must possess strong facilitation, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  12. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  13. Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  14. Familiarity with college access programs and issues.
  15. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.

Desirable Qualifications
  1. Possession of a Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Work, or other relevant ?eld.
  2. 3-5 years of work experience in college and career guidance, and/or post-high student program planning and coordination.
  3. 2-3 years of work experience in developing and/or implementing college and career student workshops or programs.
  4. Experience with the onboarding process at University of Hawaii campuses.
  5. Experience working with University of Hawaii faculty or college staff.
  6. Experience working with students of Hawai‘i from diverse backgrounds and demographics.
  7. Experience in using mobile texting platforms such as Signal Vine.
  8. Experience working with GEAR UP grants, or other federal educational grants serving underserved student populations.
