Job Title: CNC Technician – 5-Axis Machining (2nd & 3rd Shift)

Job Description

This CNC Technician role focuses on setting up, operating, and optimizing multiple 5-axis CNC machines in a high-volume, highly automated manufacturing environment. You will support 6–7 machines in your department, ensure efficient changeovers and tooling adjustments, troubleshoot machining issues, and help train new CNC operators, all while maintaining high quality and productivity standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate 5-axis CNC machines independently from day one, including full machine setup and verification.
  • Support and oversee the daily operation of approximately 6–7 CNC machines within the department.
  • Change tooling and touch tools off accurately to maintain part quality and minimize downtime.
  • Program and adjust G and M code as needed to optimize machining processes and address production issues.
  • Tweak and refine Siemens-based CNC programs to improve cycle times, quality, and machine reliability.
  • Troubleshoot machining and equipment issues promptly to keep production running smoothly.
  • Run your assigned machine while also assisting with setups and adjustments on other machines as needed.
  • Train and mentor new CNC operators and machinists on machine setup, operation, tooling changes, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Work collaboratively with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to support world-class manufacturing standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and work instructions on the manufacturing floor.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3–5 years of hands-on CNC machining experience.
  • Proven experience setting up and running 5-axis CNC machines in a high-volume production environment.
  • Strong ability to change tools and accurately touch tools off on CNC equipment.
  • Ability to program and modify G and M code directly at the machine or control.
  • Demonstrated capability to hit the ground running with 5-axis CNC setup and operation on the first day.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work 2nd shift (2:30 PM–11:00 PM, Monday–Friday) or 3rd shift (10:30 PM–6:40 AM, Sunday–Thursday) as assigned.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills for machining, tooling, and basic equipment issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Siemens CNC controls and Siemens programming is a strong plus.
  • Experience working with 5-axis CNC machining centers such as Chiron or similar equipment.
  • Experience in die casting or automotive tier-1 manufacturing environments is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with highly automated production lines, robotics, and automated material handling systems.
  • Ability to train and guide less experienced operators in a clear and supportive manner.
  • Comfort working with structured components such as engine cradles, brackets, transmission parts, and body or chassis components.

Work Environment

This role is based on a large manufacturing floor of approximately 350,000 square feet, housing die cast machines, CNC machining centers, and extensive automation. The plant is relatively new and equipped with modern robotics, automated machines, and advanced 5-axis CNC equipment. You will work in a fast-paced, high-volume production setting focused on structural components such as engine cradles, mirror brackets, transmission parts, and body and chassis solutions for tier-1 automotive applications. The position is on either 2nd shift (2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday) or 3rd shift (10:30 PM to 6:40 AM, Sunday through Thursday). The environment is typical of a clean, automated manufacturing facility, where you will spend most of your time on the shop floor around running machinery and production lines, following standard safety practices and appropriate industrial work attire.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Battle Creek, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $29.00/hr.
