Job Title: Machine Operator
Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Machine Operator to efficiently manage the movement and processing of steel materials. This role involves operating an overhead crane, a sit-down forklift, and CNC machinery to cut and burn metal products according to specifications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of working with thicker gauge steel and have the ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Operate an overhead crane to move steel materials.
  • Utilize a sit-down forklift for material transportation.
  • Operate CNC machines to cut and burn metal products to specification.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and use micrometers and calipers.
  • Train on machinery, or utilize experience with oxy fuel, plasma, or other cutting methods.
  • Work with thicker gauge steel, specifically 1/4-4 inch thick carbon steel.
  • Use a grinder to prepare metal plates for machining.
  • Take inventory of materials as needed.
  • Label incoming and outgoing products.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in heavy industrial steel operations.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints.
  • Ability to use micrometers, calipers, and tape measures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with CNC burn tables.
  • Familiarity with oxy fuel, plasma, and other metal cutting methods.

Work Environment

The role is based on the manufacturing floor alongside machine operators, welders, and maintenance staff. The work environment can be a bit dirty, with temperatures varying between warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter. Steel toe boots are required, and the position is for the 1st shift, from 7 am to 3:30 pm, with potential for up to 45 hours weekly and occasional Saturdays.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of University Park, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
