Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on independently setting up and operating CNC machines to produce precision parts that meet blueprint and drawing specifications. You will work on a variety of CNC equipment, support process improvements, and ensure high standards of quality, safety, and productivity in a clean, well-organized machine shop on the second shift (Monday through Friday, 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with overtime as needed). Pay is based on experience and skill level and includes a shift differential for second shift.

Responsibilities

  • Independently set up and operate CNC machines, including CNC mills and CNC lathes.
  • Machine parts to conform to blueprints and technical drawings, maintaining all required specifications and tolerances.
  • Operate assigned machines while continuously monitoring and maintaining blueprint specifications throughout production runs.
  • Perform stability studies on gauges used to verify measurement accuracy and consistency.
  • Load, adjust, and edit CNC programs as needed to optimize part quality and efficiency.
  • Perform initial and in-process inspections as needed to ensure parts meet quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot machining and equipment issues, making adjustments to resolve problems and minimize downtime.
  • Assist CNC Operators I and II with setups, troubleshooting, and training as needed.
  • Assist with process improvement activities and tools, such as Design of Experiments (DOE), to enhance machining performance and efficiency.
  • Use all relevant measurement and inspection equipment to verify part dimensions and quality.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop standards.
  • Comply with all safety and sanitation regulations at all times.
  • Use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as instructed.
  • Effectively manage workflow within a work cell structure to meet quality and productivity targets.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and team members to support continuous improvement and resolve production issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to independently set up and troubleshoot CNC machines.
  • Ability to set up at least one type of CNC machine, such as CNC mills or CNC lathes.
  • Strong understanding of machining fundamentals and practices for both new and existing parts.
  • Ability to develop and improve machining processes based on production needs.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings thoroughly.
  • Ability to operate CNC equipment while maintaining blueprint specifications and tolerances.
  • Ability to load and edit CNC programs as needed.
  • Ability to perform stability studies on gauges and use all relevant measurement equipment.
  • Ability to meet established quality and productivity standards in a production environment.
  • Ability to efficiently manage workflow in a work cell structure.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions given in English.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all machining and inspection tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with CNC mills and CNC lathes in a production or job-shop environment.
  • Experience with grinding and general machining operations.
  • Experience assisting with or participating in process improvement initiatives, including tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Comfort working closely with manufacturing engineers to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Willingness to support and mentor less experienced CNC operators when needed.
  • Openness to ongoing training and skill development in CNC machining and related technologies.

Work Environment

You will work in a very clean and organized machine shop with a strong culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The role is on second shift, Monday through Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with a shift differential and opportunities for overtime. You will operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, and related machining and grinding equipment, and use a variety of measurement tools and gauges to verify quality. The environment promotes close collaboration with manufacturing engineers and other team members, with ample room for training and professional development. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required and provided, and the facility follows established safety and sanitation regulations to ensure a safe and comfortable workplace.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lincolnshire, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
