CNC Lathe Operator

Pay: $25–$30/hour

Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

We are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Operator to join a growing manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC lathes to perform precision machining operations including turning, threading, and boring. The ideal candidate will have experience working with CAD/CAM systems, machine setup, tooling adjustments, and maintaining high-quality production standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive daily work assignments from the Supervisor or Leadman and prioritize production tasks accordingly.
  • Set up, load, and operate CNC lathes for machining operations including turning, threading, and boring.
  • Program and modify CAD/CAM data using a centralized PC system to generate cutter location and machining files.
  • Transfer CAD/CAM programs to machine controls using DNC systems.
  • Perform machine setups, including manual tool changes and workpiece alignment.
  • Monitor machine operations to ensure parts meet quality and dimensional specifications.
  • Grind, shape, and maintain cutting tools using tool grinding equipment when necessary.
  • Complete and maintain accurate Job Tracking Forms and production documentation.
  • Troubleshoot machining or programming issues to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, manufacturing standards, and operational guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating and setting up CNC lathes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM programming and DNC systems preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications.
  • Knowledge of machining tools, cutting speeds, feeds, and tooling adjustments.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Experience

  • CNC programming experience.
  • Experience grinding or modifying tooling.
  • Familiarity with precision machining and tight tolerance manufacturing.
