Job Title: Laser Operator
Job Description

The Laser Operator will be responsible for operating CNC laser cutting equipment, including fiber and CO₂ lasers, to cut sheet metal and structural components according to prints and job travelers. This role requires the ability to load and unload material, select the correct programs, and monitor machine performance during production runs. The operator will perform basic setup and adjustments, such as nozzle changes, focus checks, gas checks, lens cleaning, and material alignment, to ensure precise cutting.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC laser cutting equipment to cut sheet metal and structural components according to prints and job travelers.
  • Load and unload material, select correct programs, and monitor machine performance during production runs.
  • Perform basic setup and adjustments including nozzle changes, focus checks, gas checks, lens cleaning, and material alignment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and cut sheets to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Conduct in-process inspections using measuring tools such as tape measure, calipers, micrometers, and gauges, documenting results as required.
  • Identify and resolve common machine issues; escalate complex problems to maintenance or engineering.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and keep work area clean and organized following 5S standards.
  • Handle materials safely using overhead cranes, forklifts, or pallet jacks, with training provided if needed.
  • Support secondary operations as needed, including deburring, grinding, part sorting, labeling, and packaging.
  • Follow all safety policies, including PPE requirements, lockout/tagout awareness, and safe material handling practices.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in laser operation, including M code and G code.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for accurate dimension verification.
  • Skill in using measuring tools like tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Experience in metal fabrication processes such as press brake, saw, deburring, and weld preparation.
  • Understanding of quality systems, including ISO standards and in-process inspection documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with nesting software and program selection/editing.
  • Knowledge of cutting parameters for common materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum across various thickness ranges.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common laser cut issues such as dross, incomplete cuts, and edge quality.

The facility is equipped with CNC laser cutting equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts, and pallet jacks. Employees are encouraged to maintain cleanliness and organization through the 5S methodology. Training is provided for safe material handling practices.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40000.00 - $52000.00/yr.
