Cary Medical Center is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our Intensive Care Unit.


In this role, you’ll manage incoming information via telephone, call bell, and direct conversation — ensuring communication flows smoothly and patients receive timely attention. You’ll also assist with up-staffing and down-staffing for the current and incoming shifts in collaboration with the Charge Nurse, Supervisor, and Nurse Manager, and perform CNA functions as needed.

Essential Job Duties:


A. CNA Duties

  1. Promotes patient safety and abides by the patient fall risk program and completes fall risk rounding at least twice per shift.
  2. Obtains and documents vital signs and reports abnormal findings to patient’s nurse.
  3. Performs daily weights and reports abnormal findings to patient’s nurse.
  4. Appropriately documents ADLs, ambulation, intake and output, vital signs, weights, safety rounding, and any other patient care activities performed throughout shift.
  5. Ensures that patients have fresh water, while appropriately observing patients with NPO status or fluid restrictions.
  6. Assists patients with activities of daily living along with providing them with supplies.
  7. Assists in ambulating patient according to physician order.
  8. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

B. Unit Secretary Duties

  1. Maintains unit supplies and equipment to meet patient care needs.
  2. Assists the Charge Nurse/Supervisor/Nurse Manager in determining unit needs on an annual basis.
  3. Assists Charge Nurse/Supervisor/Nurse Manager in problem-solving unit and patient needs.
  4. Manages patient call system and responds appropriately and timely to patient requests.
  5. Provides continuity of patient orders, day-to-day and shift-to-shift with appropriate follow-up.
  6. Expediently manages “STAT” orders.
  7. Timely entry of all patient data and results. Notifies Dietitian of NPO/Hold, TPN, tube feeding, and consult requests.
  8. Expediently communicates physician order information to appropriate staff, including stat orders. Timely communication of diagnostic work to patient’s assigned nurse.
  9. Greets families/visitors, Physicians, and other staff, providing support, direction and information.

Other Duties:

  1. Complies with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Requirements

Licenses and Education:

  1. Must have an active valid CNA certificate in Maine.
  2. High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  3. Obtains BLS certification within 1 year of hire into this position and maintains current certification thereafter.
  4. Completes CNA basic rhythms review.

Schedule:

  • Shift: 8a-5p
  • With consideration to our patients’ and staff needs, you may need to work on days, evenings, nights, weekends and/or holidays and may need to float to other units.
