Job Description

The CMT Technician performs construction materials testing and inspection services for soils, concrete, asphalt, and related materials in both field and laboratory settings. This role supports field and lab staff, helps ensure accurate sampling and testing, and contributes to high-quality project outcomes by following established quality and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Sample and test soils, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials as needed in the field and laboratory.
  • Support field and lab staff by assisting with daily testing, inspection, and documentation tasks.
  • Transport equipment, specimens, and documents to field staff, laboratories, clients, or other offices in a safe and timely manner.
  • Assist with setting up, operating, and maintaining testing and field equipment, including nuclear gauges and other specialized tools.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both field and lab environments.
  • Assist other technicians and staff with routine tasks and project-related duties as assigned.
  • Learn and retain technical and procedural information to become increasingly self-sufficient and advance within the organization.
  • Follow established quality policies and procedures to ensure accurate, reliable, and high-quality test results and documentation.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including participation in near-miss reporting and safety audit programs.
  • Work outdoors on construction sites for extended periods and adapt to varying site and weather conditions.
  • Work weekends as needed to support project schedules and client requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Entry-level experience with a strong interest in construction materials testing or construction-related work.
  • 1–2 years of experience in construction or construction materials testing (CMT) preferred.
  • Basic knowledge or exposure to soils, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials.
  • Ability to perform soil testing and related field and laboratory procedures with training.
  • Ability to safely handle and assist with nuclear gauge operations in accordance with training and regulations.
  • Capacity to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with team members and clients.
  • Ability to lift 10–50 lbs. and perform physical work outdoors for extended periods.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to job sites and other locations.
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and background check.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to work weekends as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior experience in construction, field testing, or laboratory testing is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with construction sites and construction practices is an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to following procedures and safety protocols.
  • Motivation to learn, grow, and develop technical skills to become more independent over time.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with field and lab teams and support multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively in a project-driven environment.

Work Environment

This role primarily involves working outdoors on active construction sites, with occasional work in a laboratory setting. The work includes exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and active construction activities, and requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting materials weighing 10–50 lbs. for extended periods. Technicians use field testing equipment such as nuclear gauges and standard construction materials testing tools, as well as basic lab equipment for soil, concrete, and asphalt testing. The position may require weekend work based on project needs. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cedar Creek, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $24.00/hr.
