Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a part-time Clinical Research Data Analyst. The Clinical Research Data Analyst will support a busy and high-performing research program by assisting with clinical data management and basic data analysis tasks while working both independently and as part of a team. The Data Analyst I will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Robert Wong, and other research team members to help prepare datasets, conduct routine analyses, and contribute to research activities under guidance. This role will assist with projects focused on understanding the epidemiology and outcomes of patients with chronic liver diseases, including research examining healthcare disparities. The position provides opportunities to develop data analysis skills and contribute to ongoing research initiatives within the program.
This position is a part-time, 20 hour/week position.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with working with large datasets, including the VA Corporate Data Warehouse.
- Support the development and updating of study analysis plans for research projects under guidance from the PI and senior team members.
- Assist with data cohort creation, data curation, acquisition, and data cleaning.
- Conduct routine statistical analyses of datasets (including VA electronic health records) for health outcomes and health services research questions under supervision.
- Help identify and resolve database and analysis issues with guidance from senior staff.
- Apply appropriate statistical methods to address clinical and research questions with direction from the PI or senior analysts.
- Assist with implementing statistical methods (e.g., propensity score matching, inverse probability weighting) for analysis of observational data when appropriate and under supervision.
- Contribute to ongoing research projects aligned with the focus of the research team.
- Assist with activities supporting research grant development as needed.
- Participate in regular check-in meetings with the PI and/or research team via virtual format or, when necessary, in person.
- Assist with creating tables and figures for scientific abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts.
- Assist with drafting and/or reviewing abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts.
- Contribute to presentations at scientific meetings and conferences as appropriate and approved by the PI.
- Assist with preparing research findings for manuscript submission and publication.
- Perform other research-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required;
- 0-1 years or more of related data analysis experience.
- Desired: Master's degree;
- Prior experience working with other non-VA large datasets.
- Prior experience designing and performing statistical analyses for health outcomes and/or health services research.
- Prior experience with development of abstracts, posters, manuscripts that have been published in peer- review journals
- Prior experience and proficiency with analysis of VA data (e.g. Corporate Data Warehouse)
- At least graduate level methodology and/or statistics coursework.
- Proficiency in one or more statistical packages: SQL, SAS, R, STATA, and SPSS.
- Familiarity with research protocols and regulatory requirements of governing bodies, including HIPAA and FDA compliance, is preferred.
- Experience or familiarity with literature searches using databases such as PubMed and reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Mendeley) is preferred.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a research team environment.
- Ability to communicate data needs, questions, and potential limitations to team members clearly.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic database applications.
- Ability to assist with preparing documentation and outlining work processes in writing.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to assist in scientific writing and editing.
