Job Summary
The Clinical Coordinator – RN supports the Unit Director by managing daily clinical operations, providing direct patient care, and supervising staff within the assigned unit. This role ensures safe, high-quality care through effective communication, resource coordination, staff development, and policy compliance. The Clinical Coordinator may function as charge nurse and serves as a liaison between nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates staff scheduling, assignments, and performance evaluations.
- Provides direct nursing care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Oversees staff orientation, education, and development activities.
- Identifies and resolves clinical service delivery issues.
- Performs or supports quality assurance studies and quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists in managing departmental compliance with accreditation, legal, and Joint Commission requirements.
- Acts as clinical resource for staff regarding patient care standards, workflows, and policies.
- Serves as liaison with physicians and collaborates with interdisciplinary care teams.
- Leads resolution of complex patient or staff issues and escalates concerns appropriately.
- Communicates shift changes, patient care updates, and staffing needs to nursing supervisors and department leaders.
- Ensures optimal patient assignments based on acuity and continuity of care.

QualificationsEducation
- Associate Degree in Nursing (Required).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing – BSN (Preferred)
Licenses/Certifications
- Current RN License in applicable state or compact license (Required).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required upon hire.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required within 6 months of hire.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI). Required within 6 to 12 months of hire (depending on unit).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Required within 6 months (ED only).
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – Required within 12 months (ED only).
- Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse or CCRN/CEN – Preferred or Required within 1 year, depending on unit
Experience
- 2–4 years of clinical nursing experience (Preferred).
- Prior leadership or charge nurse experience (Preferred)
