SUNYCorning Community College Nurse Education Department seeks highly qualified and experienced Registered Nurses to teach as adjunct clinical faculty in our highly regarded Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. Positions are open supervising students in a variety of clinical settings on weekdays and weekends. These positions involve teaching on one or two clinical days weekly, plus possibly making patient/student assignments the day before clinical instruction.

Adjunct faculty are able to teach up to 12 credit hour equivalents. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing material for the classes, grading assignments submitted in connection with the classes, holding an office hour for each course taught to assist students as needed, grading assignments, recordkeeping, and conducting course assessment based on the department course assessment schedule. Courses may be in-person live, asynchronous on-line, or synchronous on-line, depending on the needs of the department. While course materials are provided, adjunct faculty are suggested to update and organize the material as needed. Adjunct instructors are invited to attend department meetings but attendance is not required.

Occasional meetings at different CCC locations and in the community may be required; travel to conferences and/or recruiting events may be required. Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk/move across campus including walking up and down stairs and for travel, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing. Able to travel as needed. Typical office and indoor building environments, outdoor activity is required as related to travel and outdoor recruiting events. Teaching Duties (70%) -
  • Educate students in clinical setting as appropriate for the academic program and supervises educational activities of students under actual clinical/simulation situations
  • Teach assigned course(s) at a Clinical Site
  • Plan weekly course meetings and/or materials
  • Prepare syllabus for the course and communicate course plan with Department chair to include development and implement evaluation tools for nursing skills
  • Assists in setting up and taking down laboratory skill demonstrations designed for student practice and testing purposes
  • Update and organize curricular materials as needed
  • Assist with annual laboratory of supplies
  • Provide materials for students on-line in a Brightspace course, or other Learning Management System
  • Selects clinical assignments for students
  • Supervises students during the clinical laboratory experience
Advising Duties (25%) -
  • Post and maintain regular and reasonable office hours
  • Evaluate student progress towards achievement of learning objectives
  • Provide opportunities for students to receive feedback on their progress and assist students with identified areas of concern
  • Refer students to appropriate college services for specialized assistance
  • Write recommendations for students who need references for work or for transfer to another college
  • Maintains collegial relationships with clinical facility and meets all requirements of clinical facility
  • Maintains student attendance records, grades and other records required by the College
  • Assists department with student retention and completion initiatives
  • Develops innovative teaching pedagogies to facilitate learning
  • Incorporates high-impact teaching practices into course design, as appropriate
  • Actively engages in pedagogical and academic discipline professional development
  • Demonstrates excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize workflow
Other Duties As Assigned (5%) -
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Instruction of the specific discipline or designated Supervisor

  • Proactively engage with annual training modules to maintain up-to-date knowledge of college policies, legal standards, and best practices. Completion of assigned mandatory annual compliance training is essential for this role
  • Earned Master's degree or higher in Nursing from a regionally-accredited higher education institution or Bachelor's degree with a Master’s Degree in Nursing in progress from a regionally accredited higher education institution
  • Current unencumbered NY state RN licensure and registration
  • Two years of recent clinical experience in Fundamentals, Medical-Surgical, Psychiatric-Mental Health or Maternal - Neonatal Health Nursing required
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR
Preferred Qualification:
  • Clinical teaching experience in Nursing
  • More than two (2) years recent clinical experience in medical-surgical, critical care, maternity, pediatrics, step down unit, or emergency department
  • Experience with computerized student record management
  • Current knowledge of nursing practice for the pre-licensure RN student
