Client Accounting Manager (Nonprofit Specialist)
Location: North Haledon, NJ (Hybrid / Occasional Regional Travel)
Salary Range: $85,000 – $95,000

In this role, you will act as the outsourced financial leader and primary point of contact for a portfolio of small to mid-sized organizations, with a heavy focus on the nonprofit sector.
This is a dynamic Client Advisory Services (CAS) role. You won’t just manage the books—you will translate financial data into actionable insights, provide fiscal guidance, and confidently present financial health directly to client Executive Teams and Boards of Directors. Essential Job Functions
Client Advisory & Strategic Management
- Executive Partnership: Confidently present monthly financial statements, cash/accrual fiscal projections, and budgetary insights to client leadership and Boards of Directors.
- Onboarding & Scope Management: Participate in initial client setup meetings to define the scope of work, reporting frameworks, and ongoing service expectations.
- Compliance & Compliance Oversight: Monitor restricted grants to ensure strict compliance, assist with Form 990 and 1099 preparations, and quarterback the annual audit process.
- Proactive Problem Solving: Act as a trusted advisor, troubleshooting client issues and offering fiscal guidance to maintain long-term organizational health.
Operational Excellence & Leadership
- Team Supervision: Lead, mentor, and review the day-to-day work of Bookkeepers and Junior Accountants to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Financial Oversight: Manage and review full-cycle accounting operations, including payroll, AP, AR, and bank/credit card reconciliations, ensuring all balances are current (under 90 days).
- Quality Control: Conduct final monthly reviews of statements and uncleared transactions before they are delivered to clients.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; a CPA or MBA is highly desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of management experience within an accounting department or experience managing a portfolio of outsourced clients.
- Industry Domain: Strong understanding of GAAP, with explicit, hands-on experience in nonprofit accounting (including fund accounting and restricted grant tracking).
- Software: Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and intermediate-to-advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

- Executive Presence: Superior oral and written communication skills, with a proven comfort level presenting financial data to high-level stakeholders.
- Multi-Tasking Master: A self-starter capable of effectively planning, prioritizing, and organizing workflows across a diverse client base.
- Mobility: Willingness to travel occasionally to client sites within the NY/NJ region as required.
