Role Description

This is a part-time, on-site role based in New York, NY, for a Classroom Assistant in a mixed-age, Reggio-Emilia inspired classroom of 3- and 4-year-olds. We follow an emergent curriculum model where explorations and units of study are based on the interests of the children. The Classroom Assistant will support the lead and assistant teachers in day-to-day classroom management and implementation of the emergent curriculum. The Classroom Assistant will also support students' individual needs and collaborate with staff to ensure effective learning experiences. The role involves assisting in preparing classroom materials, supporting the social-emotional growth of children, maintaining an organized and safe classroom environment and all other duties as assigned by the lead teacher. The Classroom Assistant must engage with children in a warm and joyful manner.


Qualifications

  • Commitment to developmentally appropriate practice, learning through play, and positive discipline
  • Understanding of or strong willingness to learn how to implement an emergent curriculum
  • At least 2 years of experience working with preschoolers
  • Strong skills in classroom management
  • Experience in preparing and organizing classroom materials
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff to support classroom goals and to accept supervision and feedback
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Creativity is essential; a background in visual art a plus
  • Ability to work on-site in New York, NY, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment
  • The ideal candidate will have a child development associate's degree; undergraduate or graduate students in early childhood education are encouraged to apply
